Smash Master
So, I was fooling around with Marth once again on my spare time in training mode, and I started to practice the one move I've kinda neglected; Footstool spiking.
I soon noticed that once I got the feeling for the timing, it was easy to execute... But there was a problem.
The majority of the time I footstooled and attempted to Dair, if I didn't move Marth in any particular direction, he would miss the target. At first I thought it was the timing. I went into 1/4 speed and started mashing A once I performed a footstool, and had no further success with hitting them. I tried moving around, and I discovered something. Every time I am able to successfully spike the opponent, it is when I move Marth in the air towards the direction in which the opponent is facing.
For example, if Fox is jumping, and is facing to the right, if I attempt to move left with Marth once performing the Dair, I will miss him, regardless of the direction Marth is facing. However, if I move Marth to the right, he will always hit Fox, whether or not I attempt to hit with the front or rear of the Dair. I found this interesting since Marth's Dair has the same veritcal distance throughout the entire hitbox, and I originally assumed you have to hit with either the rear of the attack or the front in order to get the desired affect. In reality, it's all dependent on the other players position.
So basically, to sum it up, if you're going to spike that player that plans on returing to the stage, make sure you move Marth back towards the stage in most cases.
