Alright, first of all, I'd like to say I'm new to these boards. My name is Minerva. I'm not huge on the tournament scene, but I'm good friends with Inui, who some people probably know from the NE. I'm at a high-end scale of casual gaming, while my husband is more professional gaming tier (I almost never play anymore because I'm tired of the floor being mopped with my face).

Anyway, that said,

We live out in Podunk, Texas. It's called Jasper, TX. The nearest big city is Beaumont, TX, and from there, most of the big cities are Houston, Dallas, El Paso, etc, all 2-4 hours away at least. Needless to say, attending a tournament scene is difficult for us, and we're hoping we're not alone.

My husband and I--with Inui's help--would like to try to start up a local tournament scene. The thread title lists most of the surrounding cities, if you'd like an idea of whereabouts we are.

We're looking for feedback on if anyone would be willing to help us start off this small tournament; IE: Bring Wiis, guarantee their attendance, and even do indirect promotions for us. It would be nice for the gamers around here to not have to travel 3 hours again, like my husband and I had to last time. Y'know?

Anyway, thanks, and best wishes, Minerva.
I'll be checking this thread periodically.

There's about 5-10 people in Beaumont that play, you could try talking to them. They reside mostly in the Houston thread (or Dallas thread when they feel like trolling apparently).

yes i'm one of the beaumont players. :)

i like the sound of the tournament! more tournaments near beaumont the better. we always have to travel to Houston to play.

and btw, check out the houston thread, there is a big tournament coming up this saturday. you should check it out if you can.

My cousin who plays both melee and brawl lives in a few minutes from pollok/lufkin. I'll be sure to send him a link to this.

There's no way in hell we can make it to a Houston tournament. We're strictly conserving our money on attending tournaments and conventions, because at the same time, my husband and I, along with a small team of about five other individuals, are promoting a small gaming project that we intend to take large, and we're looking to use A-Kon in Dallas in May as our launching pad. Funding is necessary to save on.

We really do want to try to get something set up locally though. It's such a chore to have to drive three hours to get to any gaming scene.

We're looking for feedback on:
- Number of people willing or able to attend
- Number of Wiis with fully unlocked SSBB content (characters & stages)
- Number of spare TVs people are willing to tote there
- Number of people willing to support what's probably going to be a small scene for the first year.

We're also considering trying to open tournaments for:
Halo 3 ( how many XBoxes are available too)
Fight Night Round 3 (Xbox360 version)
Soul Calibur 3/4 (depending on feedback)

We've joked about a Battleship tournament too *LOL*

Anyway, if you're interested in seriously attending this scene, please answer:

Do you feel you would really attend?

Do you have a Wii with unlocked Brawl content that you can bring?

Do you have a TV of appropriate size you can bring to support the tournament?

Are you interested in playing in any of the other game tournaments we listed, and do you have an XBox to bring?

Notes:

Depending on feedback we get here, we'll start discussing entry and venue fees. If I get decent response, I'll actively start pursuing places to go with this. I'm going to see if the Super 8 Motel lets us just use a conference room without charging out the nose.

Don't expect a huge turnout, but if you really want another central tournament location, please try to support this! =) The first year will always be roughest. Bear with us!

I live in Louisiana, but this is only a 2 or 3 hour drive for me (depending on if it's college time or break time) and I'd be willing to drive if you guys could guarantee a turnout of 20ish+ for the smash tournies. I would also be able to bring a Wii with fully unlocked Brawl.

The timing in the month would impact if I could come or not heavily as well due to my dedication to the LA Scene and their tournaments, though. Basically, I can't confirm until I get more info, but it's very likely that I'd be able to come to these.
