Edit:

My schedule:
12 July - Arrival at San Francisco, staying at the Ramada Inn in Antioch until -
19 July - Flying to Los Angeles and staying there until -
26 July - Flying to Las Vegas
29 July - End of trip, Flying back

I already posted this at the Genesis 2 thread but it was sadly buried very quickly by all the posts there so I'm posting it again here:

------Original post--------
I'm not sure how to start this post so I'll just write whatever comes to my mind, this will be long but please read :)

So I'm a very active smash player from Israel, if you follow the ice climbers boards you probably know me already, and this July I'm fulfilling my dream and coming to Genesis 2 (HYPE!!!) but since international tourneys are sadly a new thing for me I need help with a million and one topics and questions:

1. Since my main goal in this soon-to-be epic trip is to play as much smash as possible, when is the earliest time I can arrive at the venue/hotel and still find people to play with? Once I'm there, how will I find people to play with etc... Pretty much any information and help you can give me about anything that happens before the actual event is appreciated.

2. This isn't going to cheap and I'm aware of it, but I would greatly appreciate help and information regarding splitting a room, housing solutions besides the hotel and other ways that I'm not aware of to save money.

3. Although Genesis is going to be the main event, I will be in the US for ~3 weeks, I currently don't know exactly when and where but mostly in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas (Again, as far as I know). Where and how can I find other smash events, no matter how small, in this general area between 12.7.11-3.8.11.

4. I need a teams partner, for both melee and brawl (Although I mainly play melee), obviously I prefer having someone good :p. If you want to see my level, in a couple of weeks I should have good videos to upload, don't judge me by the severely outdated videos of me you can currently find on youtube, I assure you I'm much better than that now. Do not worry about the language barrier, my English is fine.

5. Since this is a unique event for me and maybe a once in a life time experience (Hopefully not!), I have a special request to personally meet and play some of the big names, I understand if it's not realistic/possible but I would really appreciate it :), think about it, how many chances will you have to play with an Israeli top smasher...

6. Well, if you have anything else to say to help me make these 3 weeks the best time of my life, please do!

Void out, mad hyped, thanks everyone!

If you're really going to be in Las Vegas during your trip around this time, perhaps I might be able to help you find something.

The OP applies to me too (almost exactly lol), although I got some other things I wanna add.

I see that antioch is quite a distance away from pretty much everything in SF. I do plan on seeing the golden gate bridge and alcatraz and spending some days in the main area of SF bay. Would it be worth booking a hotel/staying with someone potentially in this region such as to avoid the long haul from antioch just to see places? Im aware that public transport is apparently good but things get a lot harder when you have to make multiple transfers lol.

If anyone else has the same idea as me (arrive in SF a 3-4 days before the event to see the sites etc) please let me know (applies to you too virtualvoid lol), might be able to sort out hotels etc for multiple people :o

Well, I thought about the distance issue too but from what I gathered, we really don't want to miss the whole smash hotel thing, we want to be at the Ramada Inn.

the issue is, how many people are actually going to be at that hotel for the week prior to the actual event?

I ask because most people ive talked to only plan on staying fri/sat/sun night and no more, so staying at the ramada for the tues/wed/thurs night might not actually have anyone there >_>

nvm that. I just checked the price for hotels in that region during the same time period and died. definitely not viable for a single person lol.

If you tell me when exactly, I can plan accordingly.
There's quite some time before all this, and I'd be lying to you if I said there was anything concrete planned.

You'd only be here until the third of August, which is unfortunate because the yearly regional here in town is afterwards.

However, I will let the Melee host know about this, since the monthly for Melee is always on the third Sunday of every month, but since G2 is also on the same date, they'll have to arrange a new date; for you I'd hope they'd be able to push it back one week later.

Although that is just Melee. If you don't mind messing around with Brawl, I can personally see to it that a tournament/fest is arranged on any Saturday after G2. There are also a few players I may know who may be able to play casually with you.

First of all, Thanks!

The dates for my trip are not set yet but I can't move them very freely, obviously I want to arrive at least a day or two before G2 but not before July 10th (I have an exam at the university). I plan on staying for around 3 weeks, give or take a few days.

I play brawl too but I don't enjoy it nearly as much as melee so usually I prefer going only to melee or melee+brawl events.

You should bug the local players out here if you're lookin' for a tourney while you're waiting for Genesis 2. Just lurk the Pacific West regional board, talk to the people there about it and you should be good.

And as far as looking for people to play at Genesis 2, it's honestly as easy as yelling "Hey, I'm International! Lets smash!" Honestly, last Genesis people were just walking into hotel rooms out of nowhere. That hotel is just 95% smashers and a lot of doors are open all the time. It's pretty chill.

The tournament is approaching fast and it would help me greatly to know when and where I can find smashfests/tournaments besides G2 that match my schedule so I can plan the rest of the trip better.

My schedule:
12 July - Arrival at San Francisco, staying at the Ramada Inn in Antioch until -
19 July - Flying to Los Angeles and staying there until -
26 July - Flying to Las Vegas
29 July - End of trip, Flying back

Also, still looking for any helpful information or answers to what I have already asked, thanks :)

Unfortunately, I don't know of any tournaments that happen on a weekday in Las Vegas.

Uhh if I'm still alive after driving back from a California tournament on that Saturday then I'll host a Brawl tournament on Sunday around 2PM. You can PM me for venue details.
