Of course. Fire Emblem, a game that's had good sales worldwide since its release outside of Japan, is the reason that more RPGs aren't translated.
Honestly, if given the choice between an anorexic space dragon and a badass mercenary with a sword blessed by a Goddess, I'd have to pick the latter... Although I'm Canadian, so I suppose my opinion doesn't count.
(I mean no offense to Metroid fans, just to clarify that. I'm in no way saying that Ridley shouldn't be in Brawl...)

Apparently not well enough sales to push more of the franchise to the U.S. The first sign of that being done really is with the Wii game coming out. And yes, Ridley would make a tarded brawl character. And I never said I had anything against Ike. And no, your opinion does not count since you are canadian.

The insults to the OP throughout the entire thread, for the most part, have been incredibly lame.

I played Fire Emblem for the GBA (I don't know the number, but it was the one with Lyn in it) before Melee caught my attention, so I had no clue who Marth and Roy were. Either way, I didn't like it. I thought it was bland, the cutscenes were uneventful (pasted heads with the same expression talking for 5 straight minutes), the graphics outside of battle were horrendously drawn, and I still believe every Fire Emblem character looks and acts the same (Roy, Eliwood, Ephraim and Hector, Ike, Marth, etc. etc.). Either way, I dislike Fire Emblem yet I'm not angered by their appearance in Smash Bros at all.

I may not like them, but I dislike Metroid as well, yet I still acknowledge Samus as a key factor for the Smash Bros franchise. So even though you dislike a game, you have to realize that your opinion isn't what makes Brawl. It's based solely on the sales of the characters and the demand to have them.

Can't say I agree with insults, but I can't disagree that the OP had something coming after wat was said.

The point is, the OP used bias as an anti-argument to why FE shouldn't be in the game. It's one thing to have an opinion and not like FE, it's another thing to use that as a basics for an argument. Actually, flat out bashing the game "FE Sucks!" rather then "I don't like FE because..." only made matters worse. Their likely still would have been some heat for not liking the game, but not on the scale of this. Heck, the only argument was basically... "this game sucks and that's not my opinion, it's fact!"

Finally, someone with a real opinion! I'll disagree with you, but starting a debate on the reasons you dislike FE would be pointless. Not trying to be mean when I say that! I'm just sayin that if you dont like FE, but you've actually played the game, then its ok with me. You just dont like Fire Emblem in general, I take it.

Third, just for fun how about this. Everyone who likes FE on this side, everyone who hate it on the other. Okay what are the teams? Well on the haters side we have Luser and hectichobo. The other? If you don't like fire emblem, thats fine, but theres no need make pointless topics and rant on like a fool. Brawl has a number of different fanchises that attract lots of different fans, thats whats making it so popular, but not everyone will like everything. Deal with it.

Thanks to the Black Cat for showing me this thread. I've never played or seen a Fire Emblem game in my life, and I don't really care to, but this does nothing to change the fact that it's now an internationally popular franchise (and was made so through one of the most brilliant marketing techniques I've ever seen, I might add), and is already being repped.

And, *sigh*, yes, Ike looks freakin' awesome in the update. Star Fox is my favorite Nintendo series, though, and will remain so. And, as a die-hard Falco fan, I'm hoping for his return, but, should the calamity occur that he be omitted, Ike will probably be my third character, after Fox and Metaknight. Fourth if Ridley shows up.

And that is a testament to how even non fans can still admit the positives. So shut up, you little *****!

I think they were a nice addition to the Smash Bros Melee characters, plus if they were gonna give them much more attention from that point on, it made sense to put them in Melee for publicity, still I don't believe that the Fire Emblem characters should go beyond Ike in this game.
