Finding a Solid Main

So I've been playing Smash 4 for a great amount of time. However, most of my "mains" are more "fun" characters like Dedede and G&W.
I just want to step out of this boundary and start picking up a better character.
Mario isn't quite my taste and I don't have DLC, so Cloud is also a no-no.
Any suggestions?
