Kinda Sorta OK at Smash
This came up both in the MBR as well as a few other threads in here and melee discussion, but there wasn't a thread specifically on this item which has raised a lot of controversy as it brings a traditional fighting game element (the super move) to smash.
To avoid confusion for those who don't remember I'm going to post what Sakurai has said about the final smash.
Assuming that they had the insight to allow you to hold onto Final Smash it could add A LOT to the game. These are my reasonings why:
1: You can only use it once in a match, which means it can only account for one stock off when used appropriately. It wouldn't be so overwhelming since you can't keep grabbing them and camp them.
2: Judging from some of the final smashes it could potentially be used for a recovery tactic. Link's in particular seems to launch out a triforce to stun while he flies towards his foe to deliver his super, which I can see as an excellent way to recover and make an attack simaltaneously. Of course, anyone who is aware of that wouldn't be caught dead trying to edgeguard, so it has a psyche-out factor with it.
I would go on but I don't feel like typing anymore. What do you guys think?

Further speculation I hear is that one could hold onto the final smash and use it when they choose. This could make or break the item, because you wouldn't be able to use it strategically. The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once…and only after obtaining an item called the Smash Ball, which is a precious item, indeed.
The basic gist of it? I suppose you could say it’s kind of like a powerful and personalized hammer. (Or maybe not…)
You can look forward to experiencing the glowing personality behind each of the many Final Smashes!
