This thread is a mere catalog to file what class each individual final smash falls in for quick reference as to which Final Smash does what. Although the majority of the Final Smashes are fancy and unique, each final smash follows a similar basic attacking mechanic to one another. I will list them from which one is seemingly more effective then the other, but just take that with a grain of salt. Please note as well that my strength impressions are determined by the victim being somewhat still and taking his or her abuse like a punching bag. Video for reference is right here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2HU_AJbx10Q

In total, there are 6 attack classes.

COMBO- This class exhibits a massive string of attacks and finishes off with a massive strike that usually is the immediate end of the victim.

TRANSFORMATION- People in this class transform and use their new form as an attack.

CONTROL- People in this class have Final Smash attacks that you must control.

PARALYSIS- People in this class paralyze their opponents. Usually very weak, but effective.

SINGLE HIT- Self-explanatory. People in this category perform only one strike and one strike alone. This one strike however is usually in the form of a "straight line" attack, meaning that the attack follows a single way of traveling. Usually horizontal.

AREA- People in this class affect the overall area by attacking all over the place.

Now for some characters, they may seem to house a mixture of two FS types, but bear in mind that for those characters, I will list them under the FS type that is more prevalent, not the one that serves as a mere aesthetic. Without further ado:

COMBO:
Olimar
Link
Toon Link
Ike
PT
Mario
Samus

TRANSFORMATION:
Bowser
Wario
Fox
Falco
Wolf
G&W
ZSS

CONTROL:
Pikachu
Yoshi
Diddy
Sonic
Snake
Lucario
R.O.B

PARALYSIS:
Luigi
Peach
Kirby

SINGLE HIT:
Marth
Ganondorf
Zelda
Sheik
Captain Falcon
Metaknight

AREA:
IC
DeDeDE
Pit
Donkey Kong
Lucas
Ness
Lucario
Jiggly

------

When I get the time, I will list the exceptions who are both categories for your viewing pleasure. Until then, this should serve nicely.

RECOVER! YOU MUST RECOVER!

Same can be said for Olimar actually.

It makes me so happy to see the bulborbs feast on the victim, then Olimar driving his rocket right up their ***. XD

zelda/shieks final smash is VERY strong if you can connect with it.

however, i think ZSS belongs in combo based on your definition - Transformation = People in this class transform and use their new form as an attack.

thats not what ZSS does. instead, she combos everyone around her and then flings them away with one final hit (like what you define as a combo). yes, she does transform...but that is not the more prevalent of what she is doing.

I heard someone say that if Marth's FS misses, he continues along and falls off the stage.

Anyone know if this is true?

I think you categorized wrong.
what you should do is this, give each character a category, for example:
Luigi: Paralysis, Area
Yoshi: Control, Transformation
I think this is a more effective way because some final smashes fall into more than one category

Jiggly's FS fit's none of these. All she does is inflate and puch people away. It's not even knockback, it's just pushing
