If you were familiar with the internet 5-10 years ago, you have probably played some Flash games here and there. This is a place where we can all appreciate the flashiness (get it?) and pizazz of these games from an overlooked section of the gaming world.

One of my favorites is Fancy Pants Adventures (specifically 1 and 2). This was a pretty simplistic platformer, but it still felt wonderful to play (the only thing I didn't like about 1 was the lack of sliding when you crouch and run, but that was fixed in 2), the physics felt a bit floaty but still nice, and running around with fancy pants on is great fun. These games had decent music, nicely stylized graphics, good gameplay, and great level design with some hidden stuff if you're adventurous enough. The control scheme seems a bit wonky compared to the modern-day standard, but it's still a delight to play nonetheless.

I remember that game, I used to play it quite a bit. A few off the top of my head:

Time **** - No, that's not a typo or a way to get around the censors. That's actually how the game's title is spelled. It's a puzzle platformer with some good brainteasers, interesting and well implemented mechanics and surprisingly unnerving surrealism.

The Tower of Heaven - A tough platformer made to specically invoke the original GB's limited color pallet. It's main thing is that every level a new rule is added, forcing you to drastically rethink how you play constantly. I highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of challenging platformers.

Canabalt - From what I've heard, this is the original endless runner that so many iOS games have been trying to recapture. The ease at which it's picked up and learned is a huge part of it's charm. The neat visuals and memorable music really help.

Also, Robot Unicorn Attack, which I like for the same reasons as Canabalt. I was really addicted to this one for a while.

I haven't sat down and played a Flash game for a while (with the exception of Flash 2 of course). But I remembered playing a lot back when I was younger and when I didn't knew much about video games. Here are some of my favorites:

Ultimate Flash Sonic - Basically a 2D Sonic fan game and not a bad one at that. There are only 2 zones (each are ripped right out of Sonic Advance 2, right down to having the same name of those zones) and it's a little buggy, but it kinda feels like I'm playing a 2D Sonic game. It has the the speed, rings, badniks, the characters, and the surprisingly the physics of 2D Sonic.

Stick War - Tower defense games are definitely one of the most popular genres in terms of flash games. One of my favorites is definitely Stick War. You control an army of stick men as you protect your base from the opposite team. Pretty challenging and intense. Plus the music is pretty epic and just plain awesome.

Bloons Tower Defense 4 - Another one of my favorite tower defense games. It was so addicting when I first played it. I just couldn't put it down. There are a variety of towers to choose from and feeling of domination in that game is intoxicating.

Super Mario Bros. Crossover - THIS GAME. This is high quality stuff. It's basically the original Super Mario Bros. but with the option of classic NES characters and different skins for levels and characters. Playing through Super Mario Bros. with not just Mario, but with Link? Simon Belmont? Mega Man? Samus? Bill Rizer? It makes the game so much fun.

Super Mario 63 - Another Mario fan game and a pretty good one at that. It's basically has some of the best parts of Super Mario 64 with some elements of Sunshine in 2D. A little buggy, but a well crafted and designed game. Plus, it's basically Super Mario 64 Sunshine 2D. My dream has been granted. One of my favorite flash games, hands down.

Bad Ice Cream - Ah...Nitrome. Gotta admit, they have some pretty decent Flash games. Me and my friend used to play it all the time and it left us with many hilarious moments. You control walking Ice Cream heads going around collecting fruit while dodging enemies. It has over 40 difficult challenges and the music is pretty sweet too.

Double Edged - A beat'em up that nowadays when I look at it, I just think Castle Crashers. Still though, it's a pretty fun game. You control Spartans from ancient Greece. Music is pretty hype and it's really fun with two-players.

Boxhead 2Play - When me and my friends play this game, we go to the hacked version where we have limited health and ammo. It's so much fun killing zombies with rocket launchers, grenades, and a variety of guns without a care about wasting ammo. All you see in this game when we play it is a flashing red room with black spots. Ah...good times!

This thread is making me upset, I used to play alot of flash games on Newgrounds when I was a kid but my favorite flash game would probably go to Meet N' **** Super Mario Crossover. It's pretty cool how you can play a Castlevania style game in a mario setting.

I tried going on Newgrounds just now and it became a ad-ridden website. It's just not the same website anymore, what happened to it?

Haven't really played many due to not knowing if one will have viruses or not.

I've only played 3 so far: 2 different Sonic RPG's and that Pooh Baseball Game of Hades. I remember one of the Sonic RPG's as fun.

For me? AdBlock happened to it.

Pooh Baseball Game of Hades
Everyone calls it hard because when it was first found it in Japanese, they couldn't understand that one of the screens were for Upgrades to make the game easier.
Christopher Robin is to Hell what Ken Griffey Jr. was for the Reds, though.

Oh yeah! The Sonic RPG games! Those were pretty fun and Episode 8 was pretty hype! Also, um...what is Pooh Baseball Game of Hades? When I think Winnie the Pooh, Hades would be the last thing I think of. XD

Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby, I believe. It gained short-lived memetic popularity on how outstandingly difficult the later levels were to the point of likening Christopher Robin (end boss) to the anti-christ.

Bloons Tower Defense 5 is probably one of the best tower defense games out there. There's a "deluxe" version on Steam for anyone who's interested. It's basically the same game but with more maps and towers.

I remember in 8th grade everyone would play Tron Online during free days in Music class. It was basically the original arcade Tron game but you could play with people online.
