A little birdie told me that a lot of them were dissatisfied with the approach staff took towards certain issues (and by staff I mean veteran admins) as well as general censorship on the site.

It's not really my place to say but the birdie did not want to say it themselves. It's old news anyway and it wasn't a one-sided controversy.
