Smash is a fighting game, unique in it's genre. Yes, melee had multiple versions. 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 with subtle updates. This is one thing they have in common with their brethren. Even though it's not a highly publicized as the difference between Virtual Fighter 5's and Street Fighter 3's[Second Impact, Third Strike], warranting a full tag line, informing of the difference.

We've all heard rumor of yet another delay, and while most of us would be happy to wait if it meant another[our favorite] character would be added, at this point, I think it's been long enough.

My question to you today;
If SSBB were to have upgraded versions come out over the months, probably 2 more max, with slight adjustments, and only 1 character, minimum, would this be something you would purchase??
Would you hold out and play your friends until the last of the balance/revisions are released?? Would you support this, or rather opt for downloaded content, [which appears as a problem to me considering the Wii's hard drive space]??

What are your opinions?

If there IS downloadable content waiting, why not just release Brawl now and update via DLC? That's what they're doing for Guitar Hero III from what I understand. If they add characters, stages, etc., don't bother delaying for it, since Nintendo can't afford another delay. This is one of the most hyped games in the last few years, and I daresay it should be out when it should come out.

it goes without saying the newer version available for purchase in tangible medium, is the equivalent of purchasing another game. The changes to the gameplay are more than the addition of one new character or more. The issue of balance modifications, changes to attacks, attack properties, and little tics here and there. Polish if you will. Would the manual be any different?? who's to say... will there be any bonus content... once again... simply for your thought if your would [[BY NO MEANS SHOULD YOU USE THIS AS THE DEFINITIVE EXAMPLE!!]] Compare Street Fighters of the same name with slightly different taglines. or perhaps if you or someone you know still has it. Ver. 1.0 of smash to Ver. 1.2

Probably but I would much rather have the choice for downloadable verison that you use wii points for.

I'd buy a updated version.
As would I! Hell, if there was a new character, I'd pay up to $10 for them. Njk.

yes I would buy another copy for that one character
QFT.

I would rather download it :p, but if they came out with a newer version i would definitely buy it.
(if it was worth it)
Regardless of character, I'd buy them for at least $10. If it was someone I liked (like Ridley or King K. Rool)-I'd pay even more. :)

But downloadable content is the prefered way. However, a disc upgrade should also be available for those without internet access. And add at least 3 or 4 characters per downloadable content or new version disc. And while we're at it, return a veteran not in the "original game" would be nice! :)

As for patches that fix tiers, gameplay, glitches and whatnot-those should be free, indefintely. Do it over online, as it is EASY!

the changes would have to be huge for me to buy a new version... and the character(s) would have to be **** good.

they'd have to nerf all problems like gay chainthrows, wobbles, anything like Peach's downsmash of Melee. And they'd have to make sure the bottom tier doesn't suck too much, like M2, Pichu, Kirby in Melee.

It'd take a lot of changes for me to care about the next version.

Why not DLC?

I.. Don't know.. IF they did, you should be able to turn in your old copy for a discounted new version.

Downloadable updates is a silly idea. The Wii's hdd could not handle the amount of data several patches would use up. One or two, maybe, but after that, you won't have room to hold other save files. MAYBE with SD cards, but then that forces people to go out and buy SD cards and last I checked, nintendo isn't a fan of forcing peripherals unless it's one of their peripherals.

If the Wii works like the Xbox 360, patches and updates won't be saved to the memory space that you use to save games. There's a separate hard drive for that.

Guitar Hero III is not the only game to have patches.

Harmonix did not make Guitar Hero III.

The PC is not the only system that could have patches.

If there was new content, wouldn't they just make it downloadable instead of paying for a whole new game?

Downloading a character is completely impossible.

A whole character, with all the animations and polygons that it would entail, would take up more than the entire Wii memory.

would you buy Street Fighter 3: 2nd Impact or 3rd Strike?? or do you assume an update would patch that with downloadable content?? would you rather Download 50 new trophies that have to be unlocked or a stage that has to be earned secretly anyway, or but them personally?? Seems a little ridiculous to DL, at least to me, even if this isn't a traditional arcade fighting game

to MFZ95 way to miss the point

to everyone else; I'm just gonna bet you wish there were two versions to purchase right about now huh??

then again i suppose simply because it's a fighting game, doesn't mean the people who play it have the mentality of a fighting gamer, which is reserved for arcade games... i can't reference the Street Fighter Games enough, so i'm not going to anymore

Yeah i would to, but i was saying I wouldn't worry if it was a character that i could do without like... a mii or something along those lines.

The game isn't out yet.

Be accurate.

We won't know for sure until it comes out.

1. What rumors of another delay?
2. Since when did Melee have different versions?
3. I am sure it won't get delayed again. If it needed to, it would have been delayed longer than a month.

Melee really had minor updates. It would have to be a pretty **** update to get me interested. If I could trade in v. 1.0 and get a discounted price, then yeah, sure. Otherwise, no.

The reason they had multiple versions of Street Fighter is because they couldn't make downloadable content. It's cheaper for both the fans and the company to simply make downloadable content these days.

I'd buy an updated version if it became the tourney standard.

....But really that's what dlc is for. Hopefully Nintendo will do this

No way, smash is gonna cost me $115 if not more, I'm not gonna shell out another $115 the next month because Sakurai was dumb enough to upgrade the game after release.

Use Wi-Fi or something.

Money is not an issue for me, so I would likely trade in my old Brawl copy for an updated one if they released newer versions on disc, and if they just had DLC, that would be fine with me and I would buy all DLC right away.

For serious.

I swear.
