recently I've been really focusing on trying to l-cancel but with the exception of falco's nair i've found the timing very difficult, if anyone can give me hints on when to hit L or if ne1 knows of a vid that shows the correct time it would help. I'm mostly concerened about his dair because although I have l-canceled it before i'm am having lots of trouble figuring out the correct timing for when to. If theres a detailed thread on this I apologize and would ask if you could link it for me
Ne help you can give would be appreciated, and if ne1 can suggest characters to try this on (dair to shine?) then that would also be helpful
-Thanks, Driz

to b honest i just fooled around with it until i got the timing down. Just practice on it, thats all i can say. It took me a while to learn it, but now its second nature.

l cancelling can be a little bit tricky because its something that can change depending on your timing etc. Like falco_4_life said you need to mess around with it to get the timing down (just try and l cancell something and do a shine right after to know you are doing it properly) however you want to practice l cancelling in a variety of situations. You should know how to shffl freely across the stage, how to shffl when you hit someone so you can go into a combo, and you should know how to shffl when you hit a shield so you can pillar or at least be able to l cancell so you can prevent punishment. Any way you can think of l cancelling you should practice, jumping and l cancelling onto platforms as well is a useful technique. All these require the same basic principle of hitting l or r before you land but the different jump heights, sheild lag etc make the timing different. I also suggest practicing with a variety of characters too eventually not just falco.

The best example of when to L cancel that i've heard is exactly when you touch the ground/dust clouds come up. At the moment I have nobody to practice shffling on shields, because nobody I play is smart enough to shield. I should be going to a smashfest soon I hope though.

Don't use the dust cloud as an indicator of when to lcancel. Doing that is what screwed me up. Just remember that you want to tap L right as you hit the ground, and I mean like exactly when you hit it. The best way to know if you are doing it correctly is to shine right after. If you did it correctly, you should shine instantly, and that means you won't see yourself in the crouching position at all.

The best way to practice imo is to practice shffling with dair. Do a short hop, mash down on your c-stick at the height of your hop, and immediately afterwards mash down on your control stick and tap L at the same time. Practice that until you can do it flawlessly and that should help with l canceling in other situations.

One of the more important aspects of learning how to l cancel is making sure that you tap L. If you don't tap it, you run the risk of shielding which will screw everything up.

Yeah, Blathers got the point down. I found myself the dust clouds kind of bad, because in the middle of an attack you can't look for dust clouds, but I was hoping it would help somebody.

Thanks for the advice and anyone with similar question it's a matter of feeling out the timing I finally realized all the timing was in my button pressing speed and getting a feel for the timing

i have problems doing repeated shffls .

By button pressing speed I simply meant how quickly you react and push the L/R buttons which is also based on you the player and can't really be compared to anyone else

Probably sleeping or in school.. but always in GA
L-cancelling with everyone is pretty hard foe me.. But when I use his dair and shine, I usually press L before I hit the ground, not right when I hit the ground, and it seems to work for me.. I also do that with bowsers dair when I practice l-cancelling, and it works for me right before I hit the ground.

From what I understand its not suppose to be right when you land but the few frames before you do which is how teching works. Could be wrong but this is always what I've understood ot be true. If you trying to hit it when you hit the ground you might be hitting it too late so try hitting it slightly earlier
