Extended chaingrabs?

Haven't seen the thread yet, so might as well throw it out there.

Mr. C created a list of characters DDD can infinite/chaingrab against.
Infinite only:
Luigi

Both CG and Infinite grab:
Mario
Samus
Bowser
DK

Chain grab only:
Lucas
Pit
Ice Climbers
Diddy Kong
Ganondorf
Ness
Toon Link
Ivysaur
Ike
Captain Falcon
King Dedede
Snake
Marth
Peach
Wario
Sonic
Yoshi
R.O.B
Lucario
Wolf
Link
Charizard

Cannot be Chain grabbed:
Fox
Jiggly Puff
Pikachu
Olimar
Zelda
Mr. Game & Watch
Sheik
Kirby
Squirtle
Meta Knight
Falco
Luigi
ZSS
The green colored characters are able to be chaingrabed, but the lighter characters slide a bit further than DDD's reach (with proper DI?), allowing them to escape the chaingrab. In order to catch them back into the chaingrab, DDD is able to slide into a grab, resulting in an extended reach.

To do this, d-throw the opponent and chase after him. Before grabbing him again, hit down on the control stick then grab the opponent again. Hitting down on the control stick causes DDD to slide a small distance, but long enough to catch the opponent into another grab.

Starting from one end of a stage (say FD), DDD can do 5 d-throws before reaching the other end, with normal chaingrabs. Extended chaingrabs only allow 3-4 d-throws before reaching the other side. If your opponent is able to escape, it's better to used the extended chaingrabs for about 24-32% damage, rather than to gamble for 12% extra damage

There is a shortened chaingrab that is similar to extended chaingrabs, but I don't recommend it because the opponent can attack to interrupt the chaingrab (then is technically wouldn't be called a chaingrab :chuckle:)

The only applies to the blue colored characters in Mr.C's thread. To do this, d-throw the opponent and chase him. Similar to extended chaingrabs, hit down on the control stick but hold it long enough so that DDD stop moving (crouch canceling?) Then grab the opponent, rinse and repeat. If the opponent doesn't put up and resistance, you can do about 8 or more chaingrabs across the stage.

The way I understand it, the "red" characters cannot be chaingrabbed because they fall over after you D-throw them. It'd be more helpful if you had a video showing us what you mean.

Yeah, a video would make this clearer, but I don't have a capture card, and recording the tv is just horrible.
But I was referring to the green characters who stay standing, but slide a bit longer than DDD can raech.

Oh, okay. I'm not sure whether or not your thing is better, but it's very possible to chaingrab anyone on the green list without any chance for them to escape, so long as you shield grab.

I apologize for the double-post, but I have a question; could this work on Luigi, since he stays standing but goes too far for Dedede to reach normally? Or does it only extend the range a little bit?

Why can't you just cancel your run with shield and grab? That's how the chaingrabs are supposed to work, or you can buffer a dash grab for extra range.

edit: ill see what you say about holding down after a CG, below is what ive noticed.

theres about 3 different ways you can perform the chaingrab, maybe more.

1. normal dash grab: tumbling animation. sonic/pit can escape with upB etc,
it makes you look like a noob as well

2.shield canceled grab: way better than dash grab. longer reach[slide] and is inescapable. but since you slide far you cross stages faster. just dash and do a shieldgrab
(a shield wont pop up, youll still do the tumbling animation)

3.dashing shield grab: cubaisdeath's vid shows these grabs. theyre pretty simple when you know how to do them.
dash forward after dthrow, immediately shield while holding forward + grab.
if done right you will see a shield pop up before the grab.(there will be no tumbling animation)
if you mess up the timing you roll behind your opponent.
you can do many more chaingrabs per stage length with this, since you do not slide as far.

just whatever you do dont use normal dash grabs, they suck hard.
dashing shield grabs arent really as important, normal shield canceled grabs work fine.
