I SO read that post even though I thought it was a bad idea...and it was, sorry... Make your sentences a bit more...organised ;).
And to OP, ofcourse I have main-char problems, I main f***ing Ike, but I use him because he fits me perfectly, and next to him I always have Marth or Wario to fall back to, maybe even IC's in the future.
That's the thing, if you have trouble with mains (tourney-wise, like I have) just pick good secondaries, if you dislike your main, drop him and search the roster for someone new, it's easy.
Sorry bout the sentences, kinda felt sleepy while typing them hehe

Actually, I think youre right.
But you CAN be better with Falcon than with Pikachu. If his style fits you more. That is because Pikachu has a faster like style that needs grabs.

Falcon has a style in wich guy's like Luigi are better, but you can be better.
The thing is, I play with Falcon as well for fun, but you can't expect too win easily with him. So, if you feel better with Pikachu, secondary Falcon, said Volcanic Doomfire again.
I mained Pika in Melee for a while. I like him in Brawl too, however, Falcon still fits my style. Volcanic speaks truth.

I don't main anyone in particular anymore... In 64 it was Kirby... In Melee it was Kirby(sadface)... In Brawl(Dedede) My friends told me to switch to Metaknight cause they said I was a beast with him, but thats only because it's Metaknoght (anyone can be "good" with him) In a game that focuses fully on defensive play, The character who is the most offensive is king... I'm a defensive player ( throughout the entire SMASH series) so choosing an offensive character like Metaknight would through anyone off . I suggest you mix it up every now and then, but it's always good to make a commitment... Play who you like, but if you want to win... play who your good with... I mean main >_>

As a Pichu and Roy/Marth main in Melee, it was hard for me to K0 with Pichu but I did get the job done, as for FE characters, I did it cruisin' that had less effort than Pichu

I remember someone that made a chart about the slopes of player skill vs character skill. Can anyone link that again?

I like falco and diddy

but then it seems so much as a routine because as both characters, I just shoot a projectile, run torwards the opponent, and do some sort of smash or follow-up. They both also have easily gimped recoveries, and kinda bad survival and killing power.

But then i have friends who like to expirement with the same characters as mine, so i can switch around them and exploit my, or their weaknesses with ease

I feel yah man, when I play against a guy who dominates me with a character that I suck as, I second guess everything, like I end up trying out that character for a little bit and seeing the strengths in that character, but then lose all the skills I got from maining the other character =p

Its a horrible cycle. I need to stick with just one character at a time.

The opposite happened to me. I main Falcon, and sub... Meta-knight. I used a crappy controller which I basically couldn't trust to do exactly what I wanted in the game.

But I trained hard with Captain Falcon, and then bought a new controller... It was worth it just to see the other guys' faces when I defeated the top player in my last bi-weekly. I used Captain Falcon (he used Falco)... and Metaknight? Haven't touched him ever since.

I probably should give him some love, though...

Oh, definitely. It wasn't until my first tournament that I realized just how bad I was with Ganondorf.

It also made me realize that, no, counterpicking Frigate and then sticking with the guy who needs a ledge to grab in order to recover is not a good idea. Never forgetting that.

There's 37 character at your disposal. It would be a shame to waste them.

AHAHAHA, the topic says good "men". Does SWF get like, no female
action or what? I feel so out of place.

at any rate, I'm not a man but I have an opinion.
I main with Olimar. About a month ago I main'd with Lucas.
That's a bit of a change (bottom tier to high).
I was kinda upset when I started noticing that my Lucas was
balls but when I got used to Olimar, I actually really liked the
change. I guess it takes time to really find your mains.
It takes a lot of experimenting. glad I did because I own
with Olimar. I've been brushing up on my lucas and have gotten
better but now I prefer Olimar anyway.

~cheers

I main Falco Lombardi. Always have since Melee and I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

Gotta love that new york accent. And those lasers.

Gah!

But Falco, Toon Link, and Lucas are all far superior!
true, Lucas does rank higher as far as tier goes but...
it all depends. The difference in knock back is significantly
altered. With ness you'll find that you're causing more damage
and with lucas, you send them flying in just about every direction.
The one thing I like more about Ness is his d-air (and what a
wonderful d-air it is). Although his spike does need to be timed
perfectly if you want the hit. And Ness' grabs are superior to
Lucas'.

I personally don't care about the difference and use the both as
secondaries in tourney-like situations.

edit: and I think Link is a pretty good pick for teams.

I mained luigi ever since I got brawl..until I unlocked toon link.. In wifi whenever I vs someone with toon link it gets all laggy but whenever I play as luigi I dominate. Before I got toon link my mains switched from metaknight to ike to ice climbers to captain falcon to olimar to link to lucario to game and watch to toon link.

Link was pretty tough to play with in Brawl. I swapped to TL before I found Brawl+. After playing for a while as TL, I chose Link for a laugh and found he wasn't horrible. It was a pleasant surprise indeed.

I don't know why but no matter how hard I try,
my link will always be buns. I just can't get used to him...
*goes to practice with link* ugh...

Yes, I have doubted my main. I came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get very far with a lacklustre character. So I switched mains from Lucario to King Dedede.

...that being said, I still use Lucario as a secondary. I love him, and I'm pretty good with him, and I just can't completely give him up. My goal is to win, therefore I chose a character who is good and fun at the same time. If you're new, theres nothing wrong with starting with a character you like and are good with (like I did with Lucario). Just expect to change mains several times.

On a side note, Falcon may suck in Brawl, but he's still one of the funnest. Nothing more satisfying than landing a Knee of Justice on some unsuspecting Metaknight

I mained Pikachu back from the original Smash until I quickly unlocked Ness. I also main Marth, Pit, sometimes Kirby, Falco, Ice Climbers and Snake, and I'm hoping that I'm good enough with Link. I've had doubts that I might be better with Marth, Snake, and even Toon Link (as much as I hate that guy) but I've been a Ness main for long enough to say that I could be a Ness and Marth main. I don't mind switching around.

(BTW I'm a female smasher too!)

If there's a character you play better with, use him. But don't give up characters that you have fun with, you can always use Falcon as a secondary.

That is an odd batch of mains... I think its the snake that threw me off.
You've gotta show me your pika someday. I've been really disappointed
with recent pika combo vids and need a little palate clensing.

Ness was my very first main. those were the days, back when I used to
get whooped on by all the guys at the lib. Now I whoop on them XD
Ness is like a follow-up for me if my Oli ever gets rusted.

And thank GOD I've finally met another chick on this testosterone fest.
PM me sometime and maybe we can exchange vids :]

EDIT:
but I'm

Considering:
Pikachu
Olimar
Diddy Kong
Mario
you can never go wrong with Oli.
I'm telling you now :]
(you replaced him with Jiggs!? wtf!?)

Don't Get Me wrong...I LOVE OLIMAR, he's the character that tends to piss people off when I play with them. his grab game is awesome, he's unpredictable(smashes)

Well there is the recovery...but Super Armor FTW!!

But My friend dared me to play with jiggs 2 days ago and I felt that he fits my playstyle very well

but maybve I haven't given Captain Olimar the amount of playtime that he deserves though. i mean out of my former team he was the least used. and least experimented and i Only started with jiggs 2 days ago...

I told u it was a hard decision to make...

Actually I wasn't so sure about Snake, but the few times I played him I did well. Aw man, I forgot to add Jigglypuff to my list. She was my second most used in original smash, and I can beat my friend's ICs with her. xD

My Pika might not be the best yet, but then again...

I should get my friends to join Smashboards, since they're all girls.

EDIT: My Olimar isn't that good, I just don't like using Pikmin all the time, and I'm not a fan of those grabbing recoveries like ZSS and Ivysaur.

I can't get used to Jiggs. She's just like my Link. Hell-a sloppy.

My pika *****. period.

hmm, sadly enough (and yes I AM a huge hypocrite) I don't agree with the
idea of female gamers =/ possibly because I am not very fond of females.
I hang with dudes strictly and have one female friend (who acts more like
a guy). so, meh. I'm just glad I found one girl on this site :]

Yeah, Oli's teather (sp) is quite lame. life becomes easier when you take
advantage of his grabs and super armor. Oli is probably the best for 1v1
and he's hell-a legit in tourney situations :] consider practicing with him

My only problem with Jiggs is her being lightweight, if she wasn't I'd consider maining her. :/

It seems like people think girls can't play games like guys do. I'm a video game addict when it comes to my Wii. I know one guy other than my friends who has Brawl, but he hates Mario games. :urg:

I'll consider working on Olimar, hopefully I won't hate using him as much as I hate using Ganonfalcon right now.

I **** EVERYONE in MMOFPS games. I promise you that.
I'm the third best brawler at the facility where I play (and there are some
BEASTY dudes there).
I work C++ like you've never seen (yes, this is the basic essential for video game
DESIGN).
Honestly, people that think that way can go screw themselves.

ANYWAY; I never worry about using light weights because I have sick DI
and with olimar, it's pretty easy to avoid knock back anyway.

ehh, as far as wii games go... meh. I'm a microsoft junkie. Sony has been
slacking and Nintendo is obviously not at the top of my list. The Cube
kinda ruined it for me (until melee of course).

GAH I Have a quiz on C++ today...

I'll probably fail at that..(Short attention span...no knowledge of lesson)

and as for lightweights, Jiggs tends to die too early in percentage...

but Oli has super armor, and not being knocked back makes a huge difference in any game

simply put; Olimar is beast in every aspect.
except that ******** teather (sp) which only seems
useful when fxxking up someone's recovery and gimping.
(although it is pretty easy to catch the legde with a down+b,
up+a, up+b..... so its not ENTIRELY useless)

I wish Brawl was more known to my friends. I would like to go to a tourney but there wouldn't be many nearby.

I'm wondering if lightweights are easier to use than heavyweights...

For me, I also have a 360, we don't buy Playstations. There are a few games I like to play but not a lot of games that I own.

Me too... In Our Country (The Ph) I Only know 6 Intermediate Smashers (Me & kei_takaro) Included 3 casuals and 3 Scrubs...

Tourneys have never seen the light of day here, so we could only rely on Group Brawl meetings to test our skill and The Philippine Population would rather host a Tekken Tourney...

As For Lightweights...I really like most Lightweights' Aerial maneuverability, but You really have to be careful with them...

It depends on who's playing IRL.
Some people are good with light weights, some are not.
It really depends on your playing style and who you're
going against. Like, I would prbably use DK against Lucas
because 1. Lucas' up smash is almost imediate death for light
weights (you'll have a better chance with a heavy) 2. Lucas is
a light weight himself and DK is hell-a powerful, fully charged
smashes or not, so lucas will go SOARING! :]

I still buy Sony crap but I don't enjoy it as much as I used to...
now it's kinda "blah, where's my 360?"

Man, Lucas' Up Smash is hax. I can't stand it. >.>
I think my only heavyweight is Snake, and I rarely use him.

Sony is crap. My friend has one, but she prefers using her Wii or my 360.

Ah, I love Lucas' up smash.
Ideal situation: three noobs, all using light weights.
camp around and let them go at it. when they all have
significantly high damage, run up and do lucas' up smash.
you'll die from the lulz. I swear I almost peed myself
(although I normally only get two of them and end up
having to fsmash the last one) Lucas is also pro.
No idea why he's bottom tier.

Sony isn't necessarily "crap" but I have to admit,
I am not very fond of the PS3 and almost killed myself
when they released the PSP Go. I'm still a little scared.
The PS3's predecessor (PS2) is perfectly fine with me
and I still play mine on a regular basis (can't give up
the FFVII, X, and XII...cant wait for XIII *drools*)

haha tell your friend she needs to get her own! XD JAY KAY

Sony's not all that bad. Course, I'm just talking for all my PS3 owning friends. '.'

Yoshi is pretty heavy. Gotta love his fatness.
I still doubt him occasionally, but he gives me ok results. I'm not trading him in just yet.

If you have doubts about your main, why are they your main?
Your main should be someone you enjoy using anytime!
