Following Venezuela's Triple Crown series, it is almost time for the second edition of last year's biggest tournament: Tournament Mode.

This tournament was announced on March 2nd and will take place on April 2nd; all announcements regarding the tournament will be covered within that time span here on Smashboards!

Having a Smashboards article is a huge deal for Venezuelan tournaments as it is pretty rare to have that kind of publicity. Plus, Tournament Mode won't get just one, but two articles! After the tournament takes place, there will be a Tournament Wrap-up article with interviews, contest winners and more.

But now, onto the preview:

Keeping the Streak
Last year, TM was the biggest tournament in Venezuela, with 57 entrants on Wii U, and almost as much combining both Melee and 64. There are over 400 invited to the event; and no, it is not a typo, there are four hundred invited. With these numbers, TM may again be the largest Venezuelan tournament this year.

Although TM does not have too many setups, last year there were only three Wii U setups, which resulted in the event lasting three hours longer than expected. This year, there will be nine, but still, if the numbers are this big, the event may be too long again.

Like No Other
Last year, the staff promised many things, such as commentators, recorded matches, and four setups, but little was achieved in the end. The team's mission now is to rectify this. But with so little time, things are looking tight. This event will have the following Smash games: Project M, 64, Melee, and the main attraction, Smash 4 (other games include Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Mario Kart 8).

This year, nine setups are confirmed for Smash 4, three for Melee, two for Project M, two for Mario Kart 8 and eight for Tekken. The team expects a participation of over 60 people for Smash 4 alone, surpassing last year's record of 57 people.

The top 4 players will be interviewed, and these will be posted on Smashboards. This time around, there will be contests that will only apply to Wii U: Best Shot, Best Play and Best Set. All the winners of each category will be featured in the Tournament Wrap-up article.

Finally, the cherry on top: there will be a stream! They will be broadcasting live on Hitbox the day of the event. Unfortunately there is no schedule yet, but follow @MarioDOsuna on Twitter or visit the event page to keep up with the latest news on this tournament

Rivalries and Comebacks

As said in the last preview, there are two dominant players in the scene: 8A and VeXx. 8A took home The Controller III's winner title; will he be able to do so this time? Last year, he was unable to overcome VeXx. In an incredible turn of events, VeXx came from the Loser's Bracket and reset the bracket with his amazing green Marth and his stunning green Sheik, which, by the way, was the last time he used that character in a tournament.

Some old faces are coming back to the scene. Major veteran Bto came back with his Game & Watch at The Controller, and he is also the Astra ambassador in Venezuela. In the same line, many top players did not attend the first edition, but many people who did not attend are expected to come along with the new faces.

Road to Astra

As many of you may know, the first major tournament to feature players from all over Latin America is taking place in a few months...and Tournament Mode is part of the ranking to decide which players are flying to Colombia to export some yellow, blue and red talent!

What do you think about this tournament and the growth of these Latin American communities? Let us know!
