edgeguarding spike vs dsmash

I just wanted some people's opinions or coments on edgeguarding vs various people they consider hard to edgeguard..i think mostly for me that's marth and sheik.

So you can bair pretty easy if they go high..so they will probably go low

standing on the edge and spiking works decently against marth no? but vs sheik it seems pretty worthless...even so.. a marth can sweetspot the ledge unless you actually drop off the ledge and dair going back up..which is a reasonable option..though a bit risky if you mistime and the up b of marth slams you into the stage.

another thing i've been doing is doing the same thing from a ledgehog..just ledgehopping a dair to kill marth..but sometimes i get hit and die..it seems rather risky.

SHould i just go for a step up on the ledge and then dsmash? i've seen a lot of players do that...it's certainly safer..but the dsmash won't hit beneath the ledge right? so he can still sweetspot..

another big question i have is how effective light shield edgeguarding is..does it only work if they sweetspot? or does it work whenever they are going for the edge instead of the platform...in other words..if they are going for the edge but are aiming too high..won't the lightshield edgeguard still work? i mean you'll be hanging there in time to take the ledge i would think..yet most posts i read say lightshield edgeguarding only works vs sweetspotters.

Maybe their definition of sweetspotting is to try for the ledge in any form though.

anyways, last question..how do i edgeguard sheik? Basically i just ledgehog with firebird stall..and then ledgehop a bair if they are close enough..or ledgehop a shine to combo if they are farther away?

Marth, well you can screw him over horribly before he gets close to the ledge, if you can hit him with your lasers during his Over-bs, he loses his momentum and basicly falls to his death.

As for edgeguarding, mix them up but generally, the spike is far more effective due to it being impossible to survive unless they bump the stage...marths will edgetech the d-smash.

is it worth spiking from the ledge or off the platform instead of just short hopping them on the platform? wondering if it's worth the risk of getting stage spiked

I like using the D-smash to knock out a fox or falco's edge level illusion/phantasm. If they try firefoxing or firebirding upwards or towards me that's when I bust out the spike. They are both very useful, just in different ways. When I played a Marth I used to rush him too much and then end up getting hit by his Up-B which would send me flying back. Now, I just CC it if I don't have a huge amount of damage on me and use the D-smash. It works pretty good well.

ok the matchup i was thinking about was marth..i'm wondering whether it's worth ledgehogging and then spiking from the ledge hopped dair..or if instead i should just stay on the platform..but then they can just sweetspot right?..

marth is pretty easy imo. use lightshield or just hold the ledge. what also works alot of the time is the drop and jump-dair trick. alot of the time marth will get spiked down.
