Hello, Smash community! This is DARKALONDITE, aka DALON, aka CIPHERHEADJACY. As many as you know, the community is in an uproar claiming that Nintendo has forsaken the hardcore and are wanting harder games. Well, I've decided to counter by arguing that just because a games' easy doesn't mean it's aimed at a casual audience. Case in point: Okami.

Okami is probably one of the greatest games released in recent years but, it's easy. It's easy to the point that Twilight Princess is harder, and that's saying something. But, I liked Okami better than Twilight Princess. Why? The gameplay works better, even though it has horrible Wii controls. The graphics are more original than the gritty TP look, and the brush mechanics are more original than Link's items. Overall, this shows that easy, doesn't mean casual.

Now onto casual business. Probably one of the best known casual games is Guitar Hero. It's probably currently known as the best party game around. Also, it's incredibly difficult!! I can't beat Rock You like a Hurricane on Medium! I don't know if that makes me a scrub.

Well, that's the summation of my rant.

Casual and hard core are stupid terms, in my opinion. A game is a game, nothing more, nothing less. If it's fun to play, then it's a good game in my opinion.

Casual=Riddle with Minigames
Hardcore=Absence of Minigames

I know what your saying. Hardcore does not = hard. Thats true. My favorite Hardcore game Rouge Squadron for the N64 is easy these days but it still has the thrill of Hardcore. why? Because its action packed, Lasers Fire around you, you get Ambushed by Ties And theres always this TIE fighter on your tail that wants to shoot you down and then that game become difficult because of this super smart AI that makes you swear that your fighting your self.

So the main point of that is I agree easy does not mean Casual or Hard Mean Hardcore. It depends on the content of the game itself. A Casual game can have Hard Minigames but does that make it hardcore? No.

Overall, this shows that easy, doesn't mean casual.
Easy and casual usually come hand in hand. You mentioned Guitar Hero, which a lot of people that didn't usually play games, picked up because it was easy to learn. The same goes for Smash. Easy to learn, but difficult to master. A couple of my friends, who happen to be girls play Smash for that very reason.

Now, on to Twilight Princess. Twilight Princess was such a huge disappointment not because it was casual, but because it was too easy. All the puzzles were easy, and the combat was easy. I'm sorry, but I get no satisfaction out of killing a boss that hit me 16 times and only took out 4 of my hearts.
