Recently I changed the C-Stick on my controller to tilt attack, so I could pivot cancel. This means that I no longer have anything mapped to a smash attack. When my opponent's at a kill percent, I often struggle to kill since I can't use smash attacks without accidentally doing a tilt attack. Does anybody have a method in which I could use smash attacks more consistently? Thanks.

Just practice, i had the same issue when i first switched to tilt-stick but all i did was body a lvl 1 cpu over and over again using only smash attacks, now i can hardly miss a run-up up smash

Also I've always viewed performing a smash attack as just a dash, but you press A when the control stick hits the ridge of the hexagon

edit: lmao it's an octagon, I'm dumb :p

Thanks! I'll try that.

You just have to practice it, I have used tilt stick ever since I started playing Smash and honestly find it kind of difficult to do tilts with the control stick intentionally. I do not fully understand how it works but setting the stick sensitivity to high might help you, from what I understand all the top players do this.
