Who do you want to rep eartbound if it can have, lets say five reps:

I'd pick
Ness
Jeff
Poo
Paula
Lucas

and don't go overboard on region exclusives (flint :p)

Ness- He's a veteran. It wouldnt make sense if he wasnt in. I'm pretty sure he'll get some awesome nerfing like Mario and Yoshi got.
Lucas- Would make sense, but I dont see it exactaly happening, but then again, its possible. (I'd rather have both, just since their both unique themselves. Alt costumes wouldnt make sense.)

Claus- He cant be in at all. If I were to say the reason why, I would spoil EB3 for you. Oh well.
Claus is already dead >_>

I'm curious to know why this matters in the slightest to you. What does his fate in his own game have to do with Smash? It's not like Brawl is going to be canon to Mother's timeline, nor any other franchise's.

Also, Ganondorf says "hi". A lot.

Ness: he's the most recognizable world wide, since earthbound (or mother 2) was the only one of the series to be released outside of Japan.

Lucas: don't know what he could do; but from what I've heard, he uses the same moves as Ness. I've also heard that Ness's moves in Melee weren't used by him in EB; but WERE used by Lucas in Mother 3. so, if they change Ness's moves to ones he used in his games, then gave Lucas Ness's moves from melee (or others. as long as he's original), then I'm all for him (but ONLY if Ness gets in first)

Claus: don't know much about him. he has an arm blaster, and a sword (which I've heard has lightning powers, but I'm not sure); which make him very original and interesting. I fully support him; he would make for an awesome and unique villain for the Mother series.

But Ganondorf doesn't really die, he just sleeps along with the triforce of power.

Agreed. One character, no more. It's just not popular enough. Smash is the only time i've heard about it, so dont get your hopes up for more than 2 and especially dont get your hopes up for 5.
Fire Emblem wasn't popular at all outside of Japan in Melee, and it got 2. And plus, it's popularity has REALLY grown lately, so 3 isn't a bad number at all! I mean, some people are expecting 4 for Fire Emblem, I'd say Mother and Fire Emblem are tied in importance, so they should get the same amount of characters.

This is extremely wrong. Mother is one of Nintendo's most popular franchises ever, especially in Japan. It's always been like that, ever.

It even surpasses the popularity of Metroid, does that mean characters like Ridley shouldn't be in?

@psycho:

Same could be sayd in Super Metroid, i mean... you blast him to pieces, he falls to hot magma, then you blow up the planet.

Although i hope he does die, we need a new Pirate Villain.

Yeah, I'm just saying a character dying in a game is no excuse to exclude them from Smash

That's true, I mean, Bowser and Ganon/Ganondorf have been killed a sh-tload of times, and they're easily in Smash.
Yes, but they've come back. Also, it's not like their deaths are dramatic as Claus'.

BTW, Ness, Lucas, and Kumatora for Brawl. I'm tired of always hearing Paula or Claus.

If you ask me, I think Fire Emblem really only should get 3 representatives since, while it is strong in Japan, is still relatively small worldwide. And for Mother, I think two is enough since again, it's rather small (three games with only one seeing the light of day outside of Japan). Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the Mother series, but in a realistic view, I don't see it getting many reps. Two seems most likely with only one or as many as three being a stretch, and certainly nowhere near as many as five.

But as for those who should be in, certainly Ness is the first choice as he is only main character to be known worldwide. Second would either be Lucas or Flint, with Flint being a backup choice if Lucas is just too similar to Ness.

Now, I wouldn't say that. Ganondorf's death in TP and TWW was pretty dramatic, or, at least, tried to be. Mother 3 was just seriously dramatic as a whole, though, part of why it's an excellent game.

That is a load of crap. You must have hit a braincell, because they dont die, they get defeated. And they run back to make a plan. That was not a smart statement.

If you've seen the end of the game (EB3) you can clearly see that Lucas is PERMANENTLY dead, and basicly destroyed the world after... (or so I think at the ending video).. Plus... What dead characters are there in Brawl?

(I dont think Ridley is dead, because he never dies >_>)

No they aren't. They're always killed. Ganon was killed in ALttP, TP, and TWW. Anyone with simple knowledge would know that. Don't even dare question it, Ganon was indeed killed many times, and revived many times also in the series.

Uh, no, if you had any idea an actual experience of it, you'd know that the world wasn't destroyed. It was recreated by the dragon. You can even get some dialogue from many past characters thanking you for all your help and giving kind words towards you, showing that pretty much everyone is still alive on the new created Earth. Including Claus most likely.

One of the most heart-warming moments in the game, honestly. A very satisfying end.

Ridley was killed in Super Metroid, pretty much, hate to break it for ya. You can even find his fossil in Metroid Fusion iirc.

I thought Claus was mortally wounded AKA was about to die when he was hit by the lightning.

Well, yeah, he died at the end, but after that the dragon recreated the whole world. Most likely he wouldn't just leave Claus behind when he already revived everyone else back to their normal and happy lives.

Five Reps? Easy!

-Ness
-Pokey
-Jeff
-Lucas
-Ninten

There. Those are basically EarthBound/Mother character I'd like to see. There are more, but those are the ones I want the most... Well, Lucas I added, so that there's be reps from the entire series.

Meh... Even though Ninten had more personality than Ness, I'd just rather Ness over him. No sense in putting someone that only has a few features in terms of different look in as such. And Ninten would just basically be the same as Ness if you used him at his full potential. And Pokey seems more boss material with his Spidermech, which I would love to see, honestly.

Would that mean Hinawa was resurrected?

I highly doubt Ninten will be his own character. I think an alt is the most likely. Chances are that characters will only be from MOTHER 2 and 3.
