So last Friday, I went to my first tourney, and got second place. I started to notice that solo maining Marth is not going to work anymore. I tend to get shield pressured a lot, and due to Marth's limited OOS options, it's really hard to escape without getting punished. Fox and Falco are basically the only two matchups I have a really hard time with, mainly due to how easy it is for them to pressure your shield. So I've been wondering if I should play another character for these matchups.

Any suggestions?

The problem isn't marth, its u.

If ur getting shield pressured a lot its b/c u shield too much or don't recognize the holes in it. Fox and falco are fine matchups for marth, and the only characters that do better or the same against them are spacies themselves. If u give up after ur first tournament then u wont improve much at all im afraid to say. Getting second at ur first tourney is also a good indication that the skill level of those u were playing wasn't very high. The best answer is to improve, and picking up secondaries at low levels is just a way to avoid improving.

man, marth is considered to be one of the best characters in the game against spacies.
Although people think it's still 50/50 but that's still very very good.
If you are a low level player you could try peach. In low level play peach has an edge over spacies for sure.

Fox or sheik complement him well and each cover his bad matchups.

For most anything Marth is a good enough character for being a solo character for pretty much any solo region if you are a good enough player. I might say only in the international arena or national level might you say that Marth might not be good enough. Certainly for teams ew.

Anyway, using a second option is fine, but this is not like you are using Bowser and struggling to get going.
