It's very obvious that the U.S. is need of some oil. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and people are getting very concerned about fuels. But the big thing is, we're running low on oil. But wait! The U.S has a huge oil supply in Alaska! The only thing stopping us is Wild Life and the Environment.

Wild Life and the environment are actually not a problem at all. With the advancements in new drilling tech, we can provide a cleaner, and safer way to drill. It's been shown that the heat of drilling has even helped th Caribu herds.

I understand we need to move on to other forms of energy, but right now, most of the alternate forms are just as dangerous to the environment as using oil, if not worse.

Oil prices, at least at this point, have very little to do with supply and demand. I'm not sure exactly how drilling in ANWR will help.

With gas prices like they are, I think drilling is a very good idea, especially if they have made it easier, and more safe.

Yes! Drill there! I wonder what the actual odds of a dangerous oil spill in Alaska there is. It wont have negative side affects and will keep the gas prices reasonable for the time being.

Jam's Right. The price of gas at the pump has little to do with supply and demand.

There is no shortage of gas. You can go and buy as much as you want, it is not being rationed. The problem is with speculators artificially raising the price.

There is already a bill on the table for the US to prevent speculation on gasoline. If it goes into effect, crude oil may drop back down to $65-70 per barrel. Meaning about $2 a gallon at the pump.

Though it's also just as likely that the speculators will just crowd non-US exchanges such as the London Exchange.

Market expectations for the future is one of the factors in altering both present supply and present demand (though less so demand for gas)

Yeah, but that's speculation, which is what AltF4 said.

It's been widely stated that the oil in Alaska, even if we started drilling today, wouldn't make any big impact until 2030. Besides that, the largest problem with oil is not drilling, it's refining.
