Apparently Sakurai made a statement about alternate costumes and destructible terrain on the old website. Someone posted an article in regards to this. Normally I don't believe stuff like that but it was cited by every site that attended it. I'll see if I can Google it.

Edit - Ah, to be clearer. He stated we will have more character customization, but many sites took this as being able to change the properties of the characters such as equipment, though it's obviously referring to costumes.

I guess it's not entirely confirmed, but alternate costumes are believable and we've already seen a few levels with breakable properties.
