Let's talk doubles.

What do you Fox mains think about this wily fox in doubles? What role do you find he should play, depending on who his partner is? Is he viable, or should we switch to another character if we play doubles?

I personally think Fox is a great teammate. One of his biggest drawbacks, however, is that he can also become combo food. Still, I think his superb movement, solid moveset, and access to quick poking and KO moves make him a solid partner.

Here are some partners I've tried (not in big tourney, mainly just local smashfests) that I think are good for Fox:
:4littlemac: - I find Fox can get in against certain characters better than Mac, sometimes it works the other way too. Both can switch from being the aggressor and the support, though I feel Fox is a better aggressor against more characters due to actually having aerial options.
Grabbing an opponent and letting Mac wail on them is a good way to build up his KO meter. Or, if he's close to building his KO meter up, we can just jab Little Mac on purpose (weak and fast things like jabs or lasers) to fully charge up his KO meter. Funny, Little Mac's KO meter builds up faster when he takes hits (every 10% is one > in the meter) than when he dishes them out. Lool.

:4ness: - His Down-B + our lasers = profit for Ness. I think both complement each other well in terms of patching up their problematic matchups too (I feel Fox has less trouble vs Rosalina and Diddy, whereas I feel Ness has less trouble against Sonic and Yoshi, though again this is just me).

Other partners? Critiques on the above? I think :4sonic:, :4jigglypuff: and :4peach: could be really good too, but this is just me theorizing, I haven't tried these teams yet.

as you said, fox can become double team combo food very easily.
Having a partner that either has great stage control, or has enough speed/mobility to quickly get over to you and save you from combo's can help a lot to prevent that.

Another approach to your partner is to get someone who is a really good stock tank. Fox is a glass cannon, he is powerful but light and so is vulnerable to dying early, having a team mate that stays alive for ages can also help a lot. If you are going to go down this road, be careful about the kinda stock tank character you choose. someone like :4tlink:is great at staying alive, but his style of staying alive involves him running away and camping, and this can leave your opponents openings to double team fox and combo the **** out of him, and letting that happen defeats the point of this style.

from what little I've played so far, having 2 foxes on your team seems to work alright, foxes moves combo into each other well enough already, so you can easily combo off your team mates moves, you have scary kill potential, you have heaps of speed which can help to avoid getting double teamed and instead help you to be the ones doing the double teaming, and fox having good options on the ground and in the air can help you to not get in each others way. worth testing out some more I think.
