Yep. I'm officially done. And as the title suggests, I'm not whining, and nothing horrible happened to lead me into deciding to quit. I honestly just lost the reason I loved the game. It's kind of weird, honestly.

So let me just crank out what I want friends to know. I'm done playing competitively. I'm going to continue going to tourneys, but only in order to hang with friends, I won't actually compete. The truth is, just turning on Brawl and hearing the theme song drains my life force, and I feel the need to swing at the closest person with a blunt object. It's like chinese water torture, except I'm capable of venting my frustration.

How I stopped playing was simply that I got caught up in my own writing. After I stopped playing Brawl, I just couldn't get back to it. A few of you who know my name might have noticed that I disappeared for quite a while. In that time, I just lost my love for Brawl. I thought that I was just in denial and that I would come back to it in a month or two, but I kind of drifted from that way of thinking. I'm officially done.

My original goal was not really to become a well-known, respected Wolf user, but to make Wolf a respected force in the game. I have not abandoned that dream, and I will continue visiting this forum and helping my close friends achieve what I originally set out to do.

There's a lot more I could say, but I'll leave it at that for people who hate reading. If you're on my friends list, I'm definitely thinking of ya, but to two people I have in mind...

Wolf's reputation in MD/VA is officially on Seagull's shoulders, so I'll help that cause out in anyway I can. As for another good friend, Ishy in Jersey, I hope he and Atomsk can really bring Wolf out there.

Without further ado, I'm officially going to watch from the sidelines, cheer on my friends, Wolf or not, and enjoy the entertainment. So good luck, Smashboards.

Asaph out

That happened to me too. I find that Video Games are only important to me when I have nothing to worry about or stress over. When there is little to over come in my life video games gave me a since of something to fight for. Now I have enough to fight for and video games have taken a back seat in my life, Brawl included.

It's great to hear that you'll still be around for the fun :) As Crashic said, it happens when you find greater priorities, and I'm glad that you made the decision to seriously focus on your writing. You better not forget to send me a copy of your book once it's all done ;D

Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to come down to MD sometime over summer to chill with you and Seagull :D Until then, I'll see you around on the boards :)

I feel like I hit a bump in Brawl. The people I play with have gotten a lot better and I no longer feel the desire to improve. Although teams matches are still fun. After *Pound* 4, I may stop playing Brawl or just take a hiatus until I feel the urge to play this game again.

I'm the opposite. Video games relieve my stress.

yeah dude, ive lost my love for brawl as well. its not that i hate brawl or anything its just, i really just stopped caring for brawl and for competitve gaming in general. the only reason as to why i would go to a tournament anymore is to see close friends. the only way to pretty much be a successful competitve gamer is to pretty play this game all day, every day and its the only thing you do in your life. i have better things to do with my time then to play this game all the time to get a chance at maybe becoming a successful competitve gamer. i mean i still play brawl, but just for fun now.

but yet, i still come on this site every few days, and i honestly dont know why.

I've always been against the whole "quitting" video games. It's not a job. You can play it when you want to, and you can not play it when you don't want to.

Truth.

I quit Brawl and came back too many times.

I'm still currently retired, but doing underground training for Pound 4 just to see how I"ll do.

I still have extreme hatred for the game and have an overwhelming adoration for Melee and other 2/3D fighters in the mainstream world.

I think you could just mute it the first reason(from day one) why I wanted to quit was it hurt my senses my eyes burned, I got so many headaches, and the sound wasn't melee amazing FoDs to me.

Well you can't go wrong with ssb64 and melee is melee compared to brawl being brawl.

Brawl's soundtrack was of a higher production quality than Melee's, as well as being more diverse and complete.

You can ***** about other aspects of Brawl, but its soundtrack? Just don't go there.

Melee has a whole different sound to it, it sounds more epic to me.
Also, I heard the themes too often for them to still be good.

I agree with this.

I still do like brawls soundtrack and I have more songs on it than of melees ('cause the amount of songs it has over melees), but I just found the quality of melees songs to be.. well better. (only talking about remixes here.. not the originals left in)

then again it all comes down to taste

I'm honestly quite frustrated with vBrawl now.

I played Brawl+, and in comparision, I realized vBrawl was, and is, complete trash. I'm not going to quit Brawl entirely, but I definitely think it's sub-par compared to Brawl+.

I really like the community, so I'll be playing Snake from now on. In vBrawl, at least. Brawl+ I'll always main Yoshi.

Writing my own fiction series, six books, with philosophical themes. Set place in a fantasy kind of world.

That is a ridiculous idea. I still play video games, and in fact, I'm at a friend's house and played Brawl with them. What I'm not doing is playing Brawl competitively. It's just too much time on one thing, and I honestly can't give that much commitment to just a video game.

It's still a really fun game though.

I'm automatically interested! (love love philosophical and fantasy works)! Good luck and happy writing!
You don't happen to have any drafts around on the internet, do you?

Well, I've been spending half of my life working out the entire plot. In order to do that, I've been writing tons of different versions of one part of the book. Honestly, it's all very muddled and unorganized, so I'd be embarrassed to show it to anyone. But if you're really that interested, the series is called Midnight. I don't plan on publishing for a long time.

I had a forum made [by Forumotion] between very close friends where I would post some work, but it was deleted. I had it remade, and I might post some work in the future. If I post anything, I'll let you know.

Your writing does sound interesting.

Good luck with it.

And one other thing, the Brawl metagame is rather quite limited and is extremely gayed due to bad mechanics implemented to give it a more casual setting. So, you losing interest really isn't surprising at all.

Brawl+ changes all that.

Thanks for the support.

Well, I lost interest simply because I don't feel like putting so much effort into becoming better than the best. I actually believe I can do it as well, considering how I played against some of those best. I just don't have that much commitment. From what I understand, even if we all switched to Brawl+, there would still be a list of the best and the worst, and it would still take improvement to get to the top. I just don't feel like going all the way through there. It's not all that important to me.

Brawl+ is definitely entertaining though.

Yeah, but Brawl+ makes "the best" a little more subjective and it actually varies, because there's so many tricks and techniques a skilled player can implement to make their character beast.

For example, histun allows combos. That's a prime example. In reality, Brawl+ is a LOT more balanced, character-wise. And instead of a character's nerfs holding you back with a gay, cheap and extremely campy atmosphere that is vBrawl, it's all buffs, and individual skill being accounted for.

Plus, Yoshi is a monster in Brawl+.

But, I do understand where you're coming from and this is all merely from my personal perspective, haha. :yoshi:

I hope you can publish it one day, that'd be rewarding.

Yeah, I definitely see what you mean. That's a rewarding part of Brawl+, but unfortunately, Brawl+ being a hacked game doesn't make it easily acceptable on a universal level (if I were to play it competitively). So it has to remain as a fun side-game. Regardless, it deserves a lot more credit than it gets (and players).

I do too. But even if it's rejected by every publisher out there, I can always just have one book created for my own personal use. My only dream is to be able to hold the books in my hands and read them.

Thank you!
I hope that you can get it published someday, I look forward to reading it in the distant or not so distant future!
Thanks. It should be well-received. If not, that's fine.

YES. Nail on the head. Because it's a hacked version, it's not yet mainstream.

I think you're awesome. :yoshi:

It'll be a while before it's finalized, because I'm sure they're still changing it. That correct? I think the competitive scene needs something stable and solid for it to become a new platform for competing, and Brawl+ might not be there yet. The mindsets out there are also influential as well. I know personally I have a bad disposition towards hacking (because it's generally unstable and ever-changing).

I like to think so too. haha Not too bad yourself.

I still play Brawl. Not really for Melee. But i have never played Smash with a human(Brawl online helped) or went to a tourny(i only spectated at 1 tourny, never went there ever since cause i dont have a car :( ). If i played Smash with a human, then i would have had lots of fun.
