It turns on, the past few updates, (the updates that corresponse after the Dojo went on a one week hiatus) their pictures were made in 2nd to 3rd week of December.
It turns out, all the pictures used on the updates still keep their original JPG file tags.
Take for example: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080109a-l.jpg
The JPG tags for this image show:
Orientation of image: 1
File change date and time: 2007:12:11 02:25:21
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS2 Windows

Check the date and time. This is the January 11th update, when Olimar was announced. The JPG file was last modified an entire month before it was posted on the Dojo.

What does this mean? It means the hiatus was pretty bogus. They could have kept updating the Dojo and really didn't. They had pictures ready and all. They probably have the whole Dojo planned out until launch. The week off was probably because they finish the game (went gold) and took a break from the office since the game was finished.

This could also be a new team posting the update. Maybe they went gold and that's it, went home. There's a new group of people doing the updates and they're more careless than the original and leave the JPG tags on the pictures. The original team left them a list of all the updates until the end of January. I think that's the most probable thing. Brawl? Gold and done, no delays. At least, that's what I think.

So there you go, I'll leave you guys to further speculation.

It means they really didn't want to bother with another week full of "filler" updates, thats all.

You are quite the detective aren't you?
Well, look at the threads I started:
Advanced Techniques - Where i go frame by frame in videos looking for new/old techniques
Ness returning? - Where i use detective work on the title screen, showing a possibility that ness is coming back
Japanese Websites - Where i search all over japanese websites for brawl info

so the answer to your question: Yes. I enjoy it.

Could it somehow be possible to find these images by randomly guessing the character and number to get the in game pictures?

tried that. they POST them at 2AM EST everyday, but they're just sitting on their computers, offline. if it were the case that just linking to the pictures that are on the webservers, we would have the 13th icon by now.

The English translator revealed a while ago that he gets the updates about 4 or 5 weeks before they are posted.

And reallly, is it really that bad that they wanted to take a New Years vacation?

Nice find. This doesn't have the same ramifications as other discoveries like the Icon Theory, but it's still impressive.

Also, I believe it was said somewhere that the translators for the Dojo get the updates about 5 weeks in advance. So we already knew that the updates were pre-planned, though the week-long hiatus being "filler" was something we weren't too sure about.

today's images, which are in-game screenshots, have a 3 minute difference between the japanese screen shots and teh english screen shots. it takes them 3 minutes to switch languages and snap the picture again.

i'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's interesting and if they can have dojo updates months in advance and take a hiatus, and now, all of a sudden there's a sloppier group updating the dojo, i think the game could have gone gold.

And now the pressing question.

"Who Cares?"

are you really that addicted to the updates that one week that your going to cause an upset over them planning ahead? We have been waiting how long for this game? One week should be easy to deal with and you should not care how they do the updates they are the ones getting paid to do it. Are you going to not buy Brawl now because they made you wait for all these updates? Here is something you should think about 'They didn't have to give us a site for updates!'

The week to me was actually a relief and filled with a surprise when i got back to find olimar.

First of all, relax. I'm not upset about this. I just find it interesting. And why the sudden sloppiness? Surely, they didn't all of a sudden forget how to do post pictures on the Dojo if they've been doing it for 9 months now. I think it's a new set of people doing it. New people means the previous people aren't working on it. Brawl Gold is my speculation, but it's just something to think about.
