Does your active use of Advanced Tactics affect your status as a smasher in any way?

I was talking to my friend on MSN, who lives in FL...he said he played against the best smasher in the state (who lives in his city), but apparently the guy (best smasher) doesn't use tactics typical of pros (i.e. shffls and WDs). I was a bit confused because normally best smashers are found to use ATs, right? I'd just like your opinions and hopefully clarifications on this.

Either your friend thinks he played the best smasher in the state but really it was just his friend who was better then him, or he really played the best smasher in the state and he didn't need to use any advanced moves on your friend because they weren't necessary to beat your friend.

I'm pretty sure the best player in FL uses advanced techniques. Either he's not in fact the best player in FL, or the best player didn't need to use advanced techniques to beat your friend.

Iether that,or his friend was gullible enough to fall for the same tactics over and over again.In theory,it could have been a battle of the minds rather than a battle of the fist.

Is it possible for mindgames to compensate for tech skill? It's possible....

well, i recently watched a few Masashi videos, and it seems like he doesnt use any AT too
(of course he uses l-cancel and stuff, but you might think he´s not XD)

lol. At least I gave it to you guys verbatim; I could've bs'ed it but I didn't. Most MSN/AIM convos look completely ********, so I don't see what's wrong with mine.

What if the most awesome smasher in a state didn't even attend tournaments? Does it make the current "champion" the best? By status...maybe I should be a bit more specific; what I meant was can you declare yourself to be in a certain position if you don't use ATs?

Lol, I wish I could help but no one here other than a few people actually know who to use advanced techniques. I can't use any because I can't practice them [my GC is no working [I really need to sig this or something, I don't like saying it so much]] but I do manage to beat a lot of players.

If only I could find tournaments here.....

P.S. Most people that I play or see me play refer to me as the best smasher in the school but I just think that I haven't fought the right people yet.

Good point...though I place more emphasis on things that you have to LOOK for online in order to be awesome. L-Cancelling does qualify as an AT though, so I guess this solves part of the question.

well... juss cuz the use of the advanced tactics can make a player better, that doesnt mean it can make all players better, there are like.. maybe 3 friends of mine in my school who uses the advaced tactics and they occasionally lose to another friend of mine who doesnt use any of that, he doesn't even bother dodging, he juss uses full-on straight forward combat.
and if i'm not mistaken, ken and isai don't use that many advanced tactics and look at them, they are **** good. i believe the only ones they use is L-canceling, fast falling, short hop and edge hogging/hopping
