Does the Wii Shop Channel Auto-Update Firmware?

I've searched everywhere including the boards and haven't found anything.
I'm worried about my freeloader so I just need to make sure that it doesn't automatically update the wii.

Basically when I click the wii shop channel and press 'start' it comes up with a rotating 'circle' in the middle of the screen. Does that mean it is updating firmware?


Sorry if this is a basic question; but I am just being extra cautious. Thanks in advance.

Nope, that's just the "Wii Shop Loading" animation.

The only way your firmware will be updated is if a window pops up saying "Updating will make unauthorised devices not work, do you wish to update? If not, reset, if yes, click yes."

And the only way to get that is to choose to update the firmware.
