Does It Bother You When People Don't Use Their Main

people need to chill about this... It's more productive if people change characters there is more learning... over 50 characters and you are only going to use one!? that is really boring
Personally I never repeat a character in a battle and I love when people do the same. It requires way more skill to play well with more than "your main". IMO

I've started the habit of rotating between all the characters I'm interested in (about 5 atm) to avoid getting rusty as any of them.
As a little plus I avoid seeing the opponent "copy my character" since any streaks of victories from me is from various characters. They don't really know which character I actually main that way, and both my opponent and I get to experience various match-ups too.

Basically this.

Also, I won't lie, I can be a pretty salty person, so a small part of me always wants that revenge match. However, I always remember that having fun and getting better are the more important things.

Since I'm rotating between 4 characters on my own list of mains, I have no issue when others do the same. Mainly because they all belong to different archetypes and it'd put me at an imbalance in skill with each I'd I focused on one(and really, I'd love to focus only on Lucina, but there are others I like).

I've only played for glory once.

10 matches. 10 wins, yay for starting at the bottom.

I only played the same character in two of those matches.

I didn't mean to annoy either of my opponents that day, but I wanted to see how I'd work with a lot of different characters. In this case, nine of them. (Fox, Mario, Falco, Sheik, Duck Hunt Dog, Pac Man, Lemmy Koopa, Toon Link, and Ganondorf)

In for fun which I normally play with my friends cause I love trying custom movesets, I definitely try to avoid playing the same character twice in a row, it's really repetitive.

I suppose in For Glory if I lost I would have kept trying with Fox or Mario, but I also wanted to give the guy a chance since I seemed to have better timing than him, but I really didn't care about For Glory (in this or any video game) and prefer playing with friends, so I wanted to give him a shot with characters I was less familiar with, which is why Pac Man and Duck Hunt got shots there.

I don't like the idea of limiting myself to one character in a game with 50 characters and 394 added special moves.

I have no main, and I don't care who my opponent uses. I actually prefer fighting different characters rather than just the same one 5 times in a row.

I don't care if my opponent uses their main or not or if they switch characters. With no way to communicate there's no way to know their reasoning for what they're doing and they're not playing for me, just as I'm not playing for them.

Even if the opponent seems to be doing well with one character, if you don't know them there's no way to know if that character is their main or not. For example, I myself am still trying to decide on a main, so I'll sometimes switch characters every few matches, sometimes to another character that's a likely candidate to be my main and occassionally one I just feel like playing for fun. In particular, Zelda is a character I use fairly infrequently and don't intend to main, but a lot of people don't seem to know how to fight against her. It's not uncommon when I play as her that I'll win a match or two, switch to a character I'm considering maining, and then lose a match or two, after which usually one of us will leave.

There's always something to take away from a match no matter if the opponent stays with the same character or switches.

To me, it's the opposite: I get tired of fighting the same character over and over. If you beat me over and over with the same character, that's fine and dandy, but I find it much more impressive when it's done with different characters every time.

I suppose that's just because I almost never play as the same character twice in a row even if I win decisively as one character. My only exception to that rule is if I do something horribly stupid and get myself killed at a low percentage with a character I know I'm better with than that.

Title is pretty self explanatory, but I also mean specifically in For Glory or competitive stuff against you. Like you play 2 matches against a person's Luigi (example), then they all of a sudden switch to try a new character right when you may have been on to something match up wise.

I'm well aware that people don't have to entertain me personally, I just want to know if this irks other competitively driven people when they are inadvertently ripping a chance to learn out of your hands.

For me its especially if I take a butt whooping twice in a row with their main, then when they switch to try someone out I tear them up....then they leave and never switch back to their main like I wanted
Glad you all decided to make me seem like I threatened your families for bringing this up lmao

Clarification, it doesn't bother me if the person rotates through say 4 characters and can play decently as them all. But when you beat me 3 times in a row badly, then switch to diff characters that I all 2 stock easily, I now feel like I'm wasting time and you're just goofing off (which in turn doesn't make me better at the match up as some of you had said). Again, personal irk that I was wondering about it being shared, not a demand that you all entertain the king lest you be struck down by my solo-main elitist army

No, it doesn't bother me at all, especially considering I switch with my three mains, Robin, Lucina and Shulk, all the time so I can be balanced and skilled equally between them. Besides, playing the same character over and over again against someone online is just plain boring, at least IMO, especially if they are kicking my butt with said character. :p

This only happened once, but it traumatized me. I've been learning to play Mega Man since the demo and some guy comes around and says "Screw your practice m8". Also, the Circle Pad can suck the big one. I can never get my Metal Blade to go diagonal because of it, only horizontal or vertical. And even then, I still mess up on vertical sometimes.

If I have difficulty beating them, I'd prefer if they stuck to one character. As SevenYearItch said, I'm aware that they're not there to entertain me, but if they're obviously more skilled than me and they constantly switch characters, it's a lot harder for me to get a grasp on their playstyle and what to do against them. I'd prefer if they stuck to one character so I can get better at that match up, and be more prepared in the future.

However, if we're equally matched or my opponent isn't as good as me, I don't mind them switching. This way, I'm able to learn my match ups easily and efficiently, without an overpowering amount of pressure on me. I'm a person who likes routine; if my opponent has being playing, for example, Captain Falcon for all the matches we were playing, and then suddenly switches to Bowser, I get really knocked out of my comfort zone. It doesn't take me long to get over it, I suppose it's just a weird quirk I have :p

THIS. This is a big part of what brings joy to me in smash. My opponents salty tears as I crush their dreams.

Whenever I lose I switch to my opponents character as if to say
"Yeah you beat me but I'm better at playing your main than you are mwahahahahaha!"
I proceed to crush them in 10 seconds flat, taunting profusely the whole time.

...playing Ganon so much has corrupted my morals...

That being said it annoys me when people switch characters every match in for glory matches. For Glory is strictly for playing your main or backup character.
Personally I switch characters every round when playin with friends. I can't stand playing the same character over and over when I just wanna have fun. My friends hate it though, I can understand that they would be annoyed when they want vengeance on the character that KOd them... and also they hate waiting for me to pick a character... I take a looooong time.

Last night I played a guy that literally went through the entire cast. In order. All against my Shulk, which I guess I appreciated since I'm new enough to the character that I liked getting to play against every character in a row like that to see the types of things that I might encounter but seriously, it was ridiculous. If you're gonna play with that attitude I can't imagine any reason you wouldn't just stick to For Fun.

I switch between about 6-7 characters in For Glory because I can't stand staying on just one character and I still want to have fun while also keeping track of win percentage and stuff. The main reason I play it is because I hate time mode and love stock matches, so 1 vs. 1 For Glory is my only option.

I can't believe they didn't include 1v1 for fun matches!
I mean seriously, whats fun about playing 4 player matches with such lag that the game slows down to 3 fps?
Not to mention that the items make it even worse.

Can't tell if I like you or if I'm scared of you for that post. Maybe both, lol

It doesn't really matter to me if people don't us their main, me and my friends usually try and use different characters when we play against each other anyway

Actually, I get furious when someone refuses to play any character but the same exact one they only play. It's incredibly tedious to fight (and typically lose) against the same character played the same exact way over and over and over again. I try to be nice and tolerate it in hopes of them eventually switching things up, but it eventually gets to the point where I just leave if I see someone immediately be ready for the next match as soon as one ends.

I really don't care if they play as any character that isn't their mains because it adds to the fun and enjoyment to the game. Anyone actually bothered by this clearly has mental issues. No offense intended.

Just because you say no offense intended, doesn't make your comment any less offensive. Only someone with a seriously skewed vision of superiority would assume that just because they say it, makes it so ;)

I'm usually just thankful that they switch to a different character, since they usually kick my butt with the one they were maining before hand.

Against the vast majority of people that I have played, I don't mind when they switch from their mains, because they keep their general playstyle across characters, in terms of tendencies. When they inevitably switch back to their main to win, after a couple losses, I've picked up on their play and mind-game them out (well, ideally).

Of course, there are those players that inhabit the strengths of half-a-dozen characters, and there is no general continuity of "them". With those players, I feel like I am playing completely different people, and it's rather exciting.

The only thing that bugs me is when I play just my main, and they lose every fight while swapping characters until eventually through a combination of them finding a character I don't fight often and me getting tired they win one match... then proceed to spam that character over and over like they 'figured me out' or something. Usually by a few matches later I got the rhythm back of that character and start beating them again and then they just leave because they're mad that that can't get 'revenge' on me anymore.

switching fighters is fine, since it'll let me repair some damaged pride, provided they give me a competent match. what really irks me isn't necessarily switching characters, but SDing on top of that, one japanese player had a very skilled Mario, but after beating me with little trouble once or twice, the player SDs once and hardly bothers to fight...

I'd have to taunt twice to get them to do anything, and after i get even when they use someone else (though it's obvious they're sandbagging) finally they go back to Mario and still whip me... I saved a replay of the last match with Mario whipping me, mainly so i can remember the tag, but I'd love some salty runbacks...

Why do you assume people are playing their main In the first place, just Cause they wreck you doesn't mean they use their best.

I dont care if people dont use their main. I don't always use my mains in For Glory matches. Switching it up is nice, not only because it's tiring to you, but also to your opponent. Thus, in a way it is being considerate and at the same time spices up the game a little. Strictly using mains in For Glory matches does not teach oneself how to use characters.

its fine because you get lots of varied matchup experience even if their secondaries are meh, it stil teaches you about their movements and whatnot

although id rather people use their mains because it tends to give better quality matchup experience since they know what theyre doing

except if their main is rosalina **** that character omg
