I’ve been using joycons pretty successfully in online since I’m too broke for a pro controller and gamecubes are too loud. They can work pretty well with the right inputs but the only problem is short hopping and fast falling with the tiny buttons. Is there anyone else who plays like this or is it just me?

I use Joycons as well, and, yes, even with the two-button shortcut, it can be a pain to short hop consistently. However, fast-falling isn't hard at all — just hold down on the control stick.

(Note: I do not play competitively; I am nowhere near good enough for that.)

Never using the joycons again. The thumbsticks on those things are so fragile. I broke one of them using them for Paladins. Imagine if I played Smash with them. I bought the pro controller for these games.

Yeah I was thinking there has to be no one using these things competitively or online. I've been using them and they're a pain to use.

I actually like the smaller joy sticks on them, if it wasnt for abxy and l/r being so small i would probably use it more, but i switched to pro when i had the chance

still works for when youre just smashing spiritboard or world of light on car rides though ;)

I've been playing joy cons. Had some difficulty with short hops at first but got them down solidly now (using both the short cut and "normal" techniques depending on situation and current finger position from previous inputs). I have no issues with the sticks. But I've officially decided on switching to the pro controller anyway. The dealbreaker for me with the joy cons is that it's really, really easy to accidentally to hit a shoulder button and get a mis-input. So I'll be ditching the JCs pretty soon.
