Found a potential use for this. If they shield for the firefox, you can "firedash" and grab them.

Hey! I'm glad you're looking into Melee and experimenting and looking for new tech!

The game has been out for 18 years (nearly) so people have put in a lot of time into it and found basically all the things that are easy to find. That's not to say there isn't new tech left to be found, because there definitely is, but the tech is usually hidden and difficult to discover.

Angling fire fox into the ground to bounce is well known. It's not super useful in neutral. Using it as a mixup to grab is an interesting idea but if you did this in match against a good player, when you up b ed, they'd position themselves to try to react to what you do next, probably shielding. When they see you went diagonally down they'd drop shield to punish. The downward angle and bounce is very reactable and it's not some crazy situation people haven't seen, so they'd punish it.

Oh wow, never really noticed anyone even using that technique. It does look like it has a use as you can use it as a mixup against an opponent who expects you to run to them, whether to grab or attack them. Even though it’s a cool move to catch your opponents off guard, the downward angle produced from fire fox can be read by your opponents, leaving them with a free punish against you if they expect it. Most people would just shield against it, again, leaving you wide open to attacks.

What if they expected the up-smash et cetera, then you grab them in their shield?

If you do this there's no mixup. They just react to the bounce and punish it.
