Do you think the "red thunder" feature helped Sm4sh competitively?

I honestly say it did. If I smash attack my opponent I see that "red thunder". It's 95% guranteed K.O.

It's honestly helpful for characters like Robin. Everytime I use him, and that "red thunder" appears. I can get an early charge up of his normal special.

I hope it returns in future sequals...

it would be better if it worked properly though, I feel like it should 100% confirm your kill or not be there at all!

100% reliability is impossible because DI is a thing. I suspect the lightning effect triggers when some knockback value is projected to cross the blast line, and when it's just at the threshold the reality can vary slightly based on DI, momentum, etc., so you can kill without the lightning and survive with it.

Red lightings are quite picky in 3DS version. Often, I get smashed away with no red lightning but get KO'ED.

Eh, I'd say it's helpful. So I can taunt early XD.

I think I rely on it too much for DI. If I don't see the lightning, I'm a little more lax with it... then I die.

I don't really pay much attention to it, I know when I'm going to get a kill and when I need to get into position for a followup. I think it's a cool feature though, but doesn't affect the game from a competitive standpoint.

If you're DIing after the lightning appears you deserve to die.

It's really no different than the death scream that happens in Melee.

I think it's a nice visual cue and worth having even if not 100%.

Personally doesn't change anything for me. I've had times I've been killed/have killed others without the red lightning appearing and have had times where the lighting appears and didn't die/didn't kill other.

I don't really think it makes that much a difference competitively, at least for me, but like Red Ryu said, it's a nice visual cue. I'd usually start charging my projectiles the moment I launch them anyways, and if it didn't turn out to be a KO, then I'd position myself for an edge guard or something.

It's a nice visual indicator, but since it's unreliable, I wouldn't say it's a surefire aid to competition. Or anything, really. Mostly just a cool visual.

It's a nice visual aid for sure, but it doesn't guarantee that you got a kill, and on the flipside, if you get smashed and don't see red lightning, you can still die if you don't properly DI or just get careless.

I'm not sure if it exactly helps the competitive side of the game, but some indicator is better than nothing I guess.

Harsh ;_;

I DI as soon as I'm launched, but it depends on whether I expect the move to kill me. So when I get hit by something that I don't figure will kill me, and the lack of lightning confirms that, I relax more. Still silly, of course. But that's my reasoning.

Melee really did have the loudest death scream I kind of miss those to be quite honest. As for the visual cues in this game I wouldn't really say I rely on them or it changes my game any differently its's just another added effect in my eyes

That wasn't me being harsh, that was me telling you the truth. You can't relax your DI once you've input it as it only makes a difference before you're launched and thus the appearance or lack thereof of the black lightning has absolutely 0 effect on ANYBODY's DI.

Didn't mean to be condescending, just to let you know that DI only matters right when you're hit.

It looks cool.

Also it's always fun when someone taunts, thinking they've killed me in FG, just for me to return to the stage and make a comeback.

Exactly. It's like taunting right after you respawn, if your opponent taunted your death.

It's like "yeah I can taunt too boy. Wanna fite bout it?"

When people do that, I just ko them and taunt again. If you want to taunt, earn it.

Anyway, red lightning is just a visual tool for spectators. It's serves little purpose other than to cue people to cheer. You shouldn't be taunting until you see the ko, and you should definitely be DIing regardless.

I like taunting in the middle of matches sometimes. Even if I'm losing XD

Makes the matches more fun and friendly~

Are we sure about that? Maybe I'm imagining things, but I'm pretty sure it results in extra knockback, too, kind of like a critical hit.

It is more likely to happen the closer you are to the blast zone. Lots of characters doing B-Throws on the Smashville platform when it's near the sides can make it happen at as low as 30%. It more or less denotes when you're "supposed to" die.

Hmm I might be wrong I haven't noticed knock back increase but I could test it or rather ask someone else to.
