Do you think secret characters will be in SSE?

How do you think secret characters will be incorporated in SSE? If they're just in there and playable at certain points in the story like the rest of the characters it will be like letting you play as them and see them before you unlock them and that doesn't seem like a good idea.

If they're all unlocked through SSE that will also be no fun and probably very easy. Do you think SSE will become longer and have more levels the more characters you unlock?

I think that's the best way to do it too. Maybe a character's chapter of SSE becomes available once you unlock the character and that way you won't be able to progress at certain points until you get a character, meaning you have to unlock them all to beat it! Maybe you could get one at the end too?

The way they have it IMO is there are several unique starting stories for first 2 levels maybe and then the quests all run together.

For example: Mario and Pit start in one level
Kirby and Zelda/Peach start in another
Yoshi and Link start in one.
Diddy and DK start in one.

I would imagine the unlockables start in one as well.

About level 3 or so, the characters come together at the same level. Notice, however, in the Sonic Intro trailer, Sonic is running through the same level DK runs through after the first level. Somehow these quests will run togther. IMO all characters will be playable for SSE.

I think that you can play the whole thing through with only the starters, but after unlocking more chars you can play it differently and possibly change the story.

I'm not sure but using what Sakurai said about 3rd Party characters that they will most likely(not 100%) be unlockable characters. Plus we saw Mario and Sonic in SSE in the Sonic in Brawl video. So the answer is most likely yes.

Well what I'm really saying is won't playing and seeing the characters in SSE spoil their existence for actually unlocking them?

I think they will be able to appear but won't always. You know how metal luigi won't appear until you unlock mario? Or you can't fight giga bowser or crazy hand till you beat the event matches?

I think it will be like that they may appear once you unlock them but only the ones that you unlock through SSE (which i'm sure some will but doubt all) will appear before they are unlocked.

I think it might be like other modern fighters. When you encounter characters and defeat them you unlock them. I think thats how it should be for some of the characters. (maybe the majority) but definitely not all of them. Also I think that unlocking a character would unlock a new chapter in SSE similar to more event matches. It seems as though the SSE operates more like a story where you take control of the characters as it progresses rather than picking a character and watching it go.

I thought it would be like the latter until I saw some videos a while back

They'll most likely just be incorporated like the other characters.

Beating their stage in SSE is probably one of the ways to unlock characters.

Also, off topic:

Why is starfox the only Nintendo franchise where characters have last names?
Donkey Kong's surname is Kong.

Captain Falcon's surname is Falcon, we just don't know his First Name.

Ganondorf's last name was revealed in one of the Zelda games too.. I think ALTTP.
It was 'Dragmire'.

I think when you beat a level with its character, it becomes 'unlocked' and you can play it with any character afterwords, but it won't advance the story, and there's no cut scenes. That could explain the whole Sonic thing. I doubt unlockables will be playable other than through this method.

I would kinda be suprised that if any characters wasn't in Subspace. I remember reading a very good storyline for it. I forget exactly how they were in but it was something along the lines of that all of the characters gathered together and they split into three teams. And once they finally got to the Ancient Minister, Snake, Sonic, and Megaman were being controlled. Or something like that. And besides we already know that Sonic is in Subspace from the Sonic joins the Brawl vid.

It took us 20 hours to unlock all of the secret charachters in melee. Why must you deem a 15 to 20 hour mode unworthy of allowing all charachter be unlocked

I think that the SE is gonna be perfectly long and have several different plot-branch-things , so introducing new characters in different branches should work

I think that alternate storylines and charactors are atianable through alternate choices in SSE but I think that any released on the dojo befor release are starters

We don't know enough to make any truely educated guesses here but I don't think they'll allow us to use secret characters before we unlock them.

Unless, of course, they want us to use them to achieve something, which will unlock them for general use.

okay people this is wat Sakurai said "Most characters will be unlocked through the subspace emmissary"
from this we can infer:
1. most characters will be unlocked through sse
2.not all characters though
3.the characters that are though will be unlocked during sse. not before
does that make sense to u Kylejm

I'm guessing that you play as/fight against/save them... and after that you unlock them...

The demo guy at e for all explained that you build up your roster as you go... so I'm guessing that's how it works... but I dunno...

I'd like to see additional storylines unlocked when you unlock the character. It would add to the SSE and give the SSE more replayability.

anyway
I think it'll be like Sonic Adenture esque mode of unlocking. Where you meet the character and they are instantly unlocked

Here we go... http://youtube.com/watch?v=lR3R804FtRk

a little after 08:30 he begins talking about adventure mode... and says you unlock characters as you go and add them to your party...

"...you slowly go through and build your team up with different characters and choose them.... etc etc..."

I think that you will meet secret chars along the way if you make the right choices. For instance, you choose to save Zelda in the beginning, somehow end up in Hyrule and fight Ganondorf. Once you beat him he'll either join you or (more likely) you'll switch to his perspective. Same way if you choose Peach you'll end up in the Mushroom Kingdom fighting Luigi. After you beat them they're unlocked, and this way you will have to replay SE to unlock everyone.

I come from the land of the ice and snow..
You'll get a chance at the end of SSE to fight them like in Melee.
I don't think so, you'll either unlock them on the spot or fight them at the end of their level. It doesn't make sense for you to have to beat the whole hours-long adventure mode then fight several characters at once.

And platnum, this thread was made before he announced that, lern2read.

I still think that there may end up being maybe like 1-4 characters that may end up not being a part of the SSE party.

For instance, what if a character is unlocked through other conditions, such as playing through Classic Mode or one of the other many modes that may exist in the game? Would they get a storyline part too, despite the fact that they never actually appeared in that mode?

That's what causes me to doubt. If it turns out such a thing that you only get to see some one like Mr. Game&Watch after doing something like "All Star Mode" again, then there might be just the possibility that he won't have a role.

As long as there's a "Theatre" of sorts in the Vault, I'll be happy. It'd be great to view all of the cutscenes whenever you want.

I have a feeling Snake may not be in SSE, I have a feeling he might be a time-release character like Mewtwo. Don't ask me why I think this, just a feeling.

Where else could you unlock secret characters? I mean, there is Classic and stuff, but SSE is the way to go.

First of all: To have a game mode where some characters aren't playable would downright suck. But also, that's not going to happen.

Secondly, I had a cool idea. (Well, to me at least): If the starting roster consisted of Mario. That's it. And then, you gradually gather more characters as you travel subspace, and then when they're unlocked, you can play their full stories until eventually, everyone is playable. I'm almost certain this isn't the case, and I'm not supposing any theories, I simply think it would be interesting.
