My roster predictions: 12 characters
Mario
Villager
Donkey Kong
Fox
Link
Samus
Wii Fit Trainer
Megaman
Kirby
Pit
Bowser
Pikachu

Because 29 character is way too much and only 1 left is hiding in E3 June 10, 2014. we need a total of 30!!!

Wonder if Kirby will have all of his copy attacks finished.
Oh I am sure Kirby will. I mean, if you look on the Smash Website, you will see Kirby wearing a Charizard hat when you click on Charizard. It's on one of the 10 pics

All of the characters? No.

In 2007, the Brawl demo, in OCTOBER (there's a vid of this roster via Gamespot, I believe) was this:

That's 14 characters out of the 21 or 22-ish that we knew of via the Smash Dojo. It doesn't even have Snake. This was only a few months from the game's release, and well after the E3 in which we originally thought it was coming that December (this demo is after the delay for Sonic).

The demo only had 6 (counting ZSS) newcomers out of the 8 we knew.

Not that they will necessarily stick to what they did last time (I mean, Mario Kart 8 had every character but 2 at the last demo), but to expect all 29 is ridiculous. Especially when they'll likely show off newcomers & vets AT E3 and want people to try them the same day.

If I had to guess, the Demo roster will be mostly the characters from SSB64, a few extra vets (specifically, Pit and the characters who were split from their transformations, maybe Bowser), Villager, Mega Man, Greninja OR Rosalina, Little Mac and any characters they reveal at E3 itself.

But that's just my opinion.
Here's the thing though, with Smash 4 when this Smash Fest starts we're already going to be a month or two away from the release of the 3DS version and by that point the characters should by all means be in at least decent condition to be played. Though there is an possibility that you'll be right but I'm sure we'll see at least more characters than we saw in Brawl's demo.

That Brawl demo I posted a picture of is from 3 months before the game came out. I don't think it has anything to do with how finished they are. It's a demo. Fighting game demos don't usually give you access to 70-80% of the roster.

That's not to say it couldn't. But Sakurai seems more like he'd want to hide stuff for the heck of it.

Eh, who knows, they could catch us by surprise though, have you seen the Mario Kart 8 demo that's at Gamestop stores now? The damn thing has every character available but yeah you're probably right about Smash.

Yeah, that's why I was careful to specify "fighting game rosters" in my other post, since I knew the MK8 demo had everyone.

In all fairness, Nintendo and Sakurai think differently, and Nintendo seems to just want to get everything out there with Mario Kart. They also revealed the full roster a month in advance and had literally no rules on what people could 'spoil' about it.

SSB could do the same, but I think Sakurai's pushing for being less "all out" as fast as Nintendo themselves. Otherwise, I feel we'd know more than we do. And we know a lot.

But again, it's not impossible. Just improbable. I'd be both glad and stressed out if everyone was available. Glad because that's awesome. Stressed because I wouldn't know who to play.

At the very least I'm betting at least one new character that gets revealed at E3 will be in the demo though cause I feel it's safe to assume we'll see more than one character there.

Oh, definitely. I feel like it would be stupid to announce characters and then not have some of them playable. It'd be such a killjoy.

And going back to that Brawl demo I brought up, it was RIGHT after Sonic was revealed. So they revealed him, then had a demo for him. So I would imagine newcomers from E3 would be playable.

I think, without a doubt, if any 3rd party is revealed, they are guaranteed.

I'd guess the E3 characters don't end up in the demo, simply to stop them from leaking early and spoiling the reveal. I know Best Buy will have strong controls in place, but people would also be pretty determined to see the information.

Accordingly, I'd guess 12-15 characters for the demo. Possibly the following to get in many of the heavily changed characters plus the series staples.

Mario
Link
Samus
Fox
Pikachu

Bowser
Peach
Zelda

Olimar
Pit

Villager
Mega Man
Greninja

DK could easily replace Fox in the veteran group, but I'd guess Kirby sits out due to hats and Luigi gets dropped to avoid oversaturation of Mario characters. Yoshi might also be put in so people can try his new design.

For potential unlockable status, Marth is likely to get skipped over, especially since Fire Emblem isn't a super popular series. Sheik could easily replace Zelda but I wouldn't expect both.

For Brawl vets, Toon Link doesn't seem necessary with Link in the demo, and Lucario might be an unlockable. The new aura mechanics could help him get in though. I wouldn't expect Diddy without DK in, and Dedede might be skipped with no Kirby. ZSS is also likely to be overlooked, but I don't have a strong reason why. Sonic is another likely addition, not due to being redesigned but due to being a Third Party. That said, he was a big draw last time but people would be less excited to try him again this time, I think, since they have a general idea how he plays.

For newcomers, I could easily see WFT over Greninja, but I didn't want just the 3 from last E3. Little Mac could also easily be added. I don't expect Rosalina because her playstyle is likely not one that someone could pick up quickly. I could see them putting in more than 3 newcomers though since those are the ones people will ultimately want to see more of.

No. I think we will see:

Mario
Bowser

Pit
Fox
Little Mac
Miss Fit
Villager
Mega Man

Possibly: Olimar, Sonic, Rosalina as well.

Well, this is highly dependent on when the actual Smash Fest occurs, and when the stores get the kiosks.

For example, I am pretty sure the E3 thing last year was playable on Wednesday and then Saturday, which was post-E3. Nintendo could be super secret about it and/or not even bring Best Buy the demo stations until the last second. We don't really know.

You do bring up a good point, but I feel like it'd be silly of them to not have the new guys in too. Maybe, at the very least, the veterans.

I would assume so. If it is less, than I'd assume we wouldn't have access to the latest batch of characters that will be announced at the event.
