Hello, I thought i'd make a thread about dns p2p. In a normal situation you have to go to www.whatismyip.com or type /myip and then copy and paste your ip so that your opponent can copy it. DNS ip is basically a dns server that redirects it to your ip address. This in a way, provides some sort of "privacy" because you're not actually posting your ip address on a public chatroom. It's also much easier to remember than remembering every digit of your ip address.

The site is called http://www.no-ip.com
Once you're there head over to the login box

and click create account

remember to not BS the account information because you'll need it later.

Once you've signed up and are logged in click on "host/redirects" on the top

You'll then see a blank list of dns hosts because you haven't made one yet so click on the orange button that says "create host".

You'll then see this

type in your desired hostname(like your kaillera username) and then choose the domain (remember to choose the ones under the title "no-ip.com free domains") from the drop down box. Leave the host type as it is. Once you're done click "create host".

You should see this after creating your host:

As you can see I made my hostname "slugalug", pretty easy to remember right?

and you're done! There's a program from no-ip that allows you to update your ip remotely to the dns server. If your IP changes constantly you can have the client update it for you automatically. Get it here: http://www.download.com/No-IP-DUC-Dynamic-DNS-Update-Client-/3000-2165_4-10055182.html?tag=lst-1

So now instead of typing in your ip you can now type in your easy to remember dns server.

Note: if you use the normal p2p port, 27866, leave it as it is. example.example.com
if you use a different port do this, example.example.com:27881

When you install the program you'll get this:

Type in the email and password you used to signup at no-ip.com.
If you successfully logged in you'll see this:

You should see the host you created. If your IP changes you simply click the check box next to the smiley and it will update your ip.

I dont see the point of this. You can store a list of static IPs of the players on the p2p client.
