Many people are upset on the most recent direct and I don't blame them. But we still have dlc coming until 2020, so it is possible that characters we want still have a chance. These are my 3 predictions of characters that can get in. This is based of my opinion.
Miles "Tails" Prower: Sonic the Hedgehog - The reason I think that tails can be potential dlc is because of Shadow. We are not sure when Sakurai did plan dlc, but I can assume that it happened during around the time the game was teased. It is possible to believe that Sakurai messed up when he hid Shadow until the last second and he knew about it. So he can try to please sonic fans by adding Sonic's best friend and hope that it can please the people who want Shadow.
Dante: Devil May Cry - Sakurai proved with Piranha Plant that any character is possible, so why not Dante. I see Dante being a really unique character and Sakurai did add characters from rated M games before. I can see him in the game.
Geno: Super Mario RPG - Sakurai did want Geno to be in the game for a long time and so do the fans. Sakurai can't ignore all the demands for Geno so it is possible that he will finally get a spot on the roster.
But for now, all we can do is hope and wait. Sakurai is an unpredictable man. If he can add a plant, then anyone is possible.
