So, we all know that Lucas form Mother 3, and Mewtwo from Pokemon are coming our way in forms of DLC. I am very excited for these characters, but what about other characters? How do you think they will affect the meta? How will Mewtwo and Lucas affect the meta? Let me know!

Welcome to Smashboards. The Wii U / 3DS Character Discussion sub-forum contains support threads for a lot of characters that people want to see in the game. So if you want to know / speculate on that feel free to use that section of the website.

For example,
Krystal: http://smashboards.com/threads/the-...hieve-krystallization-by-voting-today.324255/
K. Rool: http://smashboards.com/threads/k-ro...-krocthevote-time-for-our-finest-hour.324259/

In terms of how DLC can affect the metagame, that's another question entirely as Shaya mentioned.

At this stage there currently seems to be no reason for DLC characters not to be included beyond the logistics of having it available on every set up.
Mewtwo will be legal at evo, short of something unexpected happening.
Lucas won't be due to the proximity of him being released and the tournament itself.

P.S. Patch/Character speculah isn't a valid topic here.
However discussing how you think DLC will impact the metagame seems pretty fair.

Mewtwo, Lucas, and future DLC characters will affect the meta, but not in a gigantic way. Players may change their mains to these characters and of course the tier lists are going to be changed with these guys being placed wherever they will be, but overall its a positive change that almost all smashers are excited for

Mewtwo is going to be a lot stronger in this game competitively. Not necessarily due to buffs, but due to the changes in game mechanics.

New ledge mechanics would make Mewtwo a lot harder to edgeguard in this game, especially since he has the fastest teleport out of the entire cast. Additionally, rage also helps Mewtwo out. While he is on the lighter side of characters in Melee, he still has a small amount of bulk to him. Which would potentially allow him to live to percentages where he could implement rage and convert it to kill throws (ala Ness). And, like Ness, Mewtwo has some pretty strong throws.

Lucas has a lot of Ness's strengths, but is better and worse in some areas. He has a faster Fsmash, but he lacks a Dsmash that hits behind him. His Dair is better, though Fair can be argued to be a bit worse despite still being good. His Bair is a spike and his Usmash has scary KO potential, but his throw strength is weaker than Ness's iirc. He does have a tether recovery though, and his specials are overall slightly better than Ness's. He also has faster running speed which would help him out.

So overall, both of these characters have the chance to be quite good in Smash 4. Mewtwo is probably not going to be lower than Mid tier, and Lucas is probably going to have relatively the same amount of strength Ness possesses. And Ness is pretty great in this game.

One of the most important things for Mewtwo, outside of the over-all mechanics changes, will be whether or not he's much heavier now than before. He was basically the least dense character before (referring to his weight being low for his size), which gave him some nasty disadvantages. But at least Confusion works as a reflector now.

As for Lucas, I've got faith in him. His tether recovery will be great, and the rest of his moves seem no worse than before. With luck, he won't have some grab-release issues like in Brawl, and maybe he'll have some good customs to further improve his options. Plus, slow as Ness's bat is in this game, maybe the Stick will be useful in some sort of attack string or scenario other than a hard read.

On the plus side, he'll be heavier than Rosalina at least. Plus, unlike Rosalina, he has his quick Nair to help him escape certain juggle situations. Fair too I guess.

Or, ya'know, he could just teleport away. That could work too.

Confusion buff to function as a proper reflector is also really nice, but I like how it appears to link into other attacks much more fluidly than it did in Melee.

Depending on how Disable has been programmed in this game, it could also be very useful here too. In particular, I am thinking it might be very good for jab locking scenarios when tapping opponents off of a platform since he crouches down lower during the animation...assuming that it can even hit an opponent that's on the ground. If it could, that kind of tech would be incredibly potent and valuable.

Both Mewtwo and Lucas seem to have potential in Smash 4. Maybe not in the highest tiers, but enough to be a solid mid or high. So they will definitely have influence on the metagame in the future.

lore-wise, mewtwo should be heavy. but he alrrady has many pluses like good recovery and kill throw, so they have to give him a downside. in his case its light weight.

think of him as rosalina. she's outstanding in most categories like kill power, range, recovery (altho it can be easily guarded), good air game. so if sakurai-san made her heavy, or maybe even middle weight, she'd be a very strong tank and we dont want that

so even tho mewtwo should be heavy weight, it wouldnt be very fair as every fighter must have some weak points

We don't know for sure he will be heavier than Rosalina, there's been no evidence of that.

Also Rosalina also has quick/long ranged aerials + Luma + aerial movement mind games to help her escape juggles. One of the reasons Rosalina isn't super low on tier lists like Mewtwo was is because despite her floatiness and big frame, she's great at escaping juggles because she has various tools for doing so. Whether or not Mewtwo can even match her in that regard in this game remains to be seen (but unless he has customs that help him here, I don't see him coming close based on his trailer, his moves seem largely the same in a lot of ways).
