Does anyone know a consistent way of escaping this? IIRC, there was a certain direction you had to DI to escape. Also, does it work with all characters or only certain characters?

You can't DI out of grabs as far as I know (maybe the mechanics are diffrent when DK let's you go from his grab rather then throwing you, idk)

Start mashing those buttons and hope you get out/he panics and messes up.

Only way I know. :p I remember AntD's DI thread said you cannot DI throws.

Well the whole idea with the DK infinite grab trap is that he can pick you up, then wait for you to get out of the grab and if he's quick he can grab you again before you can do anything. If you just don't touch anything it will take like 30 sec before you get out of the grab tho so just try waiting it out and if he keeps on doing it he's just incredibly lame.

I've always been better than anyone I know at button mashing from my mario party days of youth. If you get out of his grab fast enough (if he grabs you at a Low %) and then immediatly shorthop or something and if DK doesnt react perfectly I dont think you'll get regrabbed.

Honnestly the chainthrow in hyrule castle is more viable in a match IMO

Yeah I'm aware you can't DI grabs, but I thought when DK simply lets you go there was a certain way to DI. I vaguely remember an antd video about it...

I don't like just waiting for him to throw me though, because if he knows what he's doing he can set up an easy combo or a KO off the stage using the "fall off the stage and throw the character into the stage wall then UpB" trick. :p

Here's a vid of Isai doing it near-perfectly against a Kirby

Someone made a list of moves that will come out before they can grab you again. It was a while ago though and I don't remember where.

I do know that Yoshi can jab before the regrab and so can Falcon and Fox I think. Theres a lot more too but I don't remember.

Just mashing fast won't get you out of it in most cases. I'm pretty sure you have to get out of it with certain buttons. I could be making that up though.

I heard you can DI to the other side of DK when you release yourself, it won't get you out but it makes sure DK needs quick reflexes and turn around if he wants to grab you again. Never tried it myself though.
I wouldn't call it DI but yeah I've seen computers do that, dunno how to though.
