We've known for a while that the patriot act was an evil thing, but now a 16 US citizen year old has been taken into custody under suspected terrorist charges, but they have virtually no evidence against him. By all means this was a totally arbitrary abuse of power that exposed the horrendously faulty structure of the Patriot Act, and provides a rallying call to pressure congress for it's immediate and total repeal.

Searching Google for Ashton Lundeby yields only a few hundred results, though a lot of them really are credible sources. What this means is that nearly enough people know about what had happened and we really need to spread the word to whomever will listen. I do not grasp the full magnitude of what has happened here, but as a voting citizen of the USA I know that something simply must be done about this horrible act of injustice.

Please watch and read.

Well, then, what is this voting citizen of the USA going to do about this. He is going to urge congress to repeal the Patriot Act, but he can't do it alone, he needs help to spread the word to get more people to get politically involved, and when the whole country knows how bitterly the patriot act as failed congress will repeal the act, and if they won't we the people will vote for people who will.

Of course the word must be spread, urge your friends and family to visit the links provided, write a letter to congress, post this on another message board/forum if appropriate, and of course, participate actively in your government. Remember, you can vote, you can encourage other people to vote, you could even run for office if you wanted to. This government was set up so that it could be run by the people, all the people have to do is be willing to step up and run it.

Also proof that we don't really have any rights when they can just be taken away from you like that.

I'll spread the word.

She has never read the patriot act. It's a woman (who are overwhelmingly liberal), her son's in danger, what can you expect? She's mad.. who cares? She's gonna be angry and scared and have a ton of whims and feelings, but the smart thing to do is not go and talk yourself silly to every reporter you see. What you do is you be respectful of the government: you get your attorney, you file whatever complaints you have, and you get the case on the calendar. Respect will get you amazing places in life, and this woman has none for her government, thus the situation..

""They wouldn't tell me who they were, or where they were from," Annette recalled. "All I knew was that if I said the wrong thing I'd be dead on the floor, and there would be nobody here to protect my children.""
(From the third link) This woman is not intelligent. She would not get shot for saying the wrong thing. She could have called every one of the agents mother5s terrible things, nothing would have happened to her.

The attorney is stupid too.. what do checks and balances have to do with amount of federal power? Checks and balances pertain to the distribution of federal power, not how strong the federal government really is. Government 101.

Lastly, where does the Patriot Act come in? The searchers had a warrant, they searched the house. Amendment IV.. what's the deal here, the officials didn't just storm in without a warrant and start shooting up the place.

"Annette and her children were held hostage in their home until 1:30 in the morning. The 12-year-old daughter was dragged from her bed by an armed stranger – an act that left the girl traumatized (and one for which the assailant should be thrashed to within a centimeter of his tax-devouring existence)"

Do you know how much government employees get paid? Nothing. At all. This writer is ignorant.

And he won't stop whining about the court system.. How much of a lawyer do you have to have at your first appearance? You hear charges and you plea.. And if you can actually prove your lawyer is incompetent (which is difficult, admittingly), you can get a new one.

Having flags on your bed doesn't change who you are. Stupid point to bring up by the article of death.. the article basically makes about a million extremely hateful comments about everyone involved in this.. guess what? Habeus corpus means you have to be charged.. and he was.. No he must have a speedy trial, and there is no definition, so stop complaining about that. Usually defenses want more time than that, and the boy himself probably wants plenty of time to obtain witnesses and talk to his lawyer.

"When that long silence was finally broke, Ashton explained to his mother that "he was being punished for 'moving his eyes in the lunchroom,'" Annette related in a voice heavy with incredulity. "He told me, 'Mom, all I did was try to find out what we were eating. But I got written up for moving my eyes.'""

The kid was probably just being a little brat, so he couldn't talk on the phone for a few weeks..

It sounds to me like the article writer has qualms with the court system, and who doesn't? Our government can't be perfect, and no government of a diverse group can be perfect.

1) This is not about the patriot act, it's about some guy who thinks his rights were taken away
2) If the Patriot Act is unconstituional, there's this thing called a lawsuit.. and the SC will chose to hear it if its brought, I'm guessing.
3) Just cause you're super liberal, that doesn't mean everything else is "evil." Maybe it's a bad law, but it would be a bad decision, not evil.
4) There was nothing unconstitutional about anything that happened, at all. Has anyone even read the Constitution who go and write these jokes of an article? Or do they just read the first 5 amendments and stop there?

I am moderately conservative. I love all kinds of people. But someday the stupid liberal people who hate everybody but themselves need to stop crying and start looking at reality. You don't have all these civil liberties and freedoms that you make up. Your home can be searched with a warrant. You can be arrested by the police at any time of day. You can be held and not charged as a suspected terrorist. If a bomb threat is made from your house, the police cannot just show up and hear testimony of the mom and the kid and then pack up and leave. A JURY must decide. Did you expect the policeman to leave? they're just doing their jobs.

The kid sounds cool, and this shouldn't have happened to him.. but life gives you lemons, and sometimes they're sour. You have witnesses who saw you at church, you have no history, you have phone records, and you're free.

Please, no flaming for me..

Here's the thing though, Ashton Lundeby will not have an attorney, nor will he get a trial by Jury. He is basically a prisoner of war. Furthermore, the only reason given for his arrest, was that he was suspected terrorist because of a few vague bomb threats made on the internet. And as anyone on who spends a lot of time the internet knows, it isn't all that hard to change your I.P. address, basically, they don't even have any proof that he even made such a threat. In fact, under the Patriot Act, my just by typing the word 'bomb' sets my comments on the watch list of their computers, obviously I'm not making any bomb threats, so I shouldn't have anything to worry about, but the point I'm getting at is the FBI more than just a little paranoid when it comes to this sort of thing.

And then, they continue to hold him continue hold him prisoner despite the fact that actually physical evidence clearly show that this kid happens to be son a church going conservative idiot who probably supported patriot act initially. There is no evidence whatsoever that this kid has any idea how to make a bomb, and they found absolutely no evidence of anything that could be used to make a bomb in this kids possession.

Of course, government officials despite the fact that they are paid as low as dirt are too proud to make admit that they made a mistake.

If my post came of as anti government, it wasn't suppose to be, I'm actually trying to encourage more people to get involved in government, this is a republic, with democratically elected representatives. People should be involved in the government, they should actively be trying to understand what their leaders are doing.

If I came of as having a liberal bias, that's because the articles have a liberal bias, I'm actually a moderate, in this particular case I happen to agree with what the liberals have to say about the patriot act.
