I recently thought of a new way to play smash 64. As far as I know, it only works on emulators. What you do is you set the p1 keys the same as the p2 keys (in other words, you control two characters at the same time). It doesn't matter if you use the same character or different characters. It's very confusing at first, but after a while, you learn tricks. My settings are no items, and team attack off (or else it's really crazy). The trick is to keep your characters together and hope one doesn't fly off the stage one way while the other goes the other way 
. I tried this with a friend, and it actually worked out well (he was p3 and p4). Unfortunately (as far as I know), there's no way to try this on kaillera, since only p1 is playable.
So now, you can play like the ice climbers (well, sort-of...). Imagine all the possibilities once they're desynched .
The way I end it for now is once both characters are defeated, it's over. But if playing as one and 'killing off the other' ends up being a favoured strategy, it could be once one character is defeated, the player loses, even if the other has not even taken damage yet.
