after playing smash 64 at my cuz's house i immediately saw differences between 64 kirby and melee kirby. kirby was one of the best and one of my favorite nintendo characters. i was shocked to see such a great character being on the bottom of the melee tier list. so i decided to compare kirby from his 64 version to his melee version and his upcoming brawl version. here's the loadown:

64 kirby:
Pros:
1. less lag on most of his moves.
2. attacks had more range.
3. moves activated faster.
4. final cutter has more horizontal movement on ground and air.
5. moves had more power.
6. was heavier.
7. was faster overall.
8. retained all of his jumps even after his f throw.
9. jumps were longer and had more verticle and horizontal range.
10. excellent edge-guarding.

Cons:
1. still light.
2. comboed by fox easier with his uair move (or falcon).
3. losses all jumps after up b move.
4. recovery predictable.
5. no kirbycides (i tried this and i ended up going down as fast as the stone. i knew kirbycides weren't in the game, but i did it for laughs:laugh:).

Because of this, kirby was #2 on the tier list. now lets look at melee kirby.

melee kirby:
Pros:
1. somewhat good recovery.
2. lowest crouch in the game (i'm glad for this).
3. opponents have less experience battling kirby with few kirby players these days (tournament wise).
4. good evasion.
5. large shield compared to body.
6. good edge-guarding.
7. can perform kirbycides (i got called cheap many times for this, but everyone fell for it. i laughed it off:laugh:).

Cons:
1. weak attacks made it harder to KO foes.
2. attacks are sluggish.
3. attacks have more lags.
4. attacks have short range.
5. predictable recovery.
6. f throw and b throw can be intercepted.
7. loses all jumps after up, back and forward throws and after using the final cutter.
8. slow speed on ground and air.
9. final cutter has less horizontal range on air and ground.
10. seems lighter than 64 version.
11. easier to combo.

So there you have it. because of this, kirby was the 3rd worse charcter in the game. so the first thought that came to me was this- WHAT WAS SAKURAI THINKING?! kirby was the best and now he's the worst? how could he nerf his own creation? so because of this many who played kirby in 64 have left him in melee. (except for a few who stuck with him, like me.) he was seriously messed up. i was awesome with him in 64, but in melee, i had a hard time playing and training with him.

Luckily, i've heard good things for kirby in brawl. here's what i've heard and seen from him in pics and vids:

brawl kirby:
Pros:
1. jumps seem longer and faster.
2. attacks have more range.
3. attacks have less lags.
4. moves activate quicker.
5. seems to have more power.
6. he's a little heavier.
7. appears quicker than usual
8. has more potential than melee kirby.
9. his dash attack is better and has less lag.
10. good dodges and evasion.
11. large shield compared to body.
12. has multiple air dodges? (since the air dodge was changed, its possible that kirby, meta knight, and pit have multiple air dodges, which would be great:)).
13. final smash sucks up everyone on stage and gives kirby health items (not sure if items are for him only though.)

Cons:
1. still predictable recovery.
2. crouch seems to be higher than before.
3. no signs of kirbycides or other advance techniques.

so far, things are looking good for kirby. but i think there's more to come than what we hope for. for me i had a few ideas for kirby. here's what i think:

what i want for kirby in brawl:
1. swallow should have more range.
2. swallow move should cancel any attack from foes.
3. if he swallows someone with a special ability, he should gain that ability as long as he still has their copied power. (for ex. if he swallowed pit or meta knight, he would gain the ability to glide like them. and since he sports wings from swallowing them, i'm starting to think that its possible, which would be awesome:)).
4. he shouldn't lose all his jumps after using his f throw, u throw, and b throw, and after using the final cutter.
4. final cutter should have more horizontal range in the air and on the ground.
5. crouch should be lower, low enough that no one taller than kirby can grab him and that fox's blaster cannot hit him.
6. easier to short hop and l-cancel.
7. retain kirbycides.
8. easier to do kirbycides and have more control over it.
9. should be able to do combos easier.
10. dodge rolls should be faster and longer.
11. moves should have more uses and advantages.
12. should be less susceptible to attacks and combos.

i'm sure there are more ideas. it would've been cool if kirby obtain his hats from his games than the hats from brawl, such as sword kirby or wheel kirby, but it looks like sakurai might have overlooked it. so far, kirby has improved and i can't wait to play him in brawl (along with meta knight, sonic and hopefully isaac.) so let me know what you guys think. share your ideas too. this is the longest thread i've ever made so please discuss.

Hang in there smashers, brawl is coming soon and i look forward to face anyone online with my 4 mains, especially kirby. may we one day meet on the battlefield. kirby rules!:chuckle:

You know they were two Kirby kamakizes in 64, (kirbycides what T!mmy named). One was the basic b, just jump close off the edge and suck up your foes. And the other was the up throw, get near the edge and do it.

melee kirby:
melee kirby:
Pros:
1. good recovery.
Melee Kirby does not have good recovery. He's entirely dependant on his multiple, slow, short jumps plus Final Cutter. All that together would sorta be on the average side of things, but he's all too easy to hit... at which point he no longer has all those jumps and dies.

brawl kirby:
Pros:
12. has multiple air dodges?
Yes, you'll be able to air dodge after each jump. :)

yea, but i got some of the info from smashwiki and good recovery was on the pros. but you're right about that. and multiple air dodges are awesome, can't wait. thanx for the comment. hopefully we'll see kirby in action some more soon.:)

i'm pretty sure kirbycides will stay in brawl and every other game unless kirby can't suck up someone. because if you just suck someone up and then go off the edge and shoot them before you die then thats a kirbycide which you could most likely recover from. i hope the jumps in brawl are lighter so you can't recover from a cide and plus kirby has always been predictable for recoveries

Yea I also noticed that Kirby was like one of the best characters ever in smash 64 but his speed dropped by a lot in melee. Well at least he was still playable in melee.

I like the multiple air dodges coupled with multiple jumps.

It would make kirbycides easier and more common.
