Perth, Australia’s DI Another Day (DIAD) is back for its second installment! Boasting some of the country's best duking it out against two international threats, DIAD 2 is not to be missed.
The event has attracted Julian "GG | Zhu" Zhu and McCain "SPY | MacD" LaVelle for Super Smash Bros. Melee and even more interstate challengers than last year for every game. With a bigger venue, two streams and over 180 entrants, this event is shaping up to surpass last year's iteration by all measures.
Melee: Zhu and MacD Take On Australia
The big focus for this year’s Melee tournament will of course be on the two internationals coming. For Te-Tuhi "SIN | Spud" Kelly and SA Nick however, it will be a rare opportunity to prove themselves to the international elite and receive a true indicator of just how far they have yet to climb.
The top contenders for the Melee trophy are:
gg | Zhu: A Falco that needs no introduction. Currently ranked 29th on the Melee It On Me (MIOM) rankings, he is sure to teach the Australians a few tricks with his play.
SPY | MacD: Fresh off a top 8 finish at Shine 2016, MacD is coming in strong. Ranked 15th on the MIOM rankings, he is the hot favorite to win DIAD 2 Melee with his Peach.
SA Nick: Nick recently took a huge win at Battle Arena Melbourne 8 (BAM8), defeating Spud in a tense set that included a bracket reset. At the most recent major the two attended, OzHadou Nationals (OHN), they did not have the chance to have a rematch due to Nick finishing at 5th place.
SIN | Spud: The famous New Zealander Marth main has since relocated to Perth. While he took the win at OHN, he did not face Nick in bracket and as a result, did not avenge his OHN loss to him. If Spud can beat Nick at DIAD 2, he solidifies his spot at the top of the Australian scene.

Smash Wii U: Ghost vs Perth
Twelve months after DI Another Day, Australia’s Super Smash Bros. for Wii U scene has been growing tighter and more competitive with every event.
With Ghost being top placing Australian at BAM8, the favorite for DIAD 2 couldn’t be less clear. Although Perth is generally considered a weaker state, home town advantage is sure to play a factor in boosting their results.
Keep an eye out for these players:
Extra: Won OHN out from the Winners Bracket with his Game and Watch/Wario duo. He has improved tremendously since BAM8 and could claim #1 in the country if he beats Ghost again.
Luco: His recent tournament showings have been incredible, taking sets off esteemed names such as Waveguider and Ghost. Specializing in the two PK characters, Ness and Lucas, Luco has what it takes to win the entire tournament.
Poppt1: DIAD was Poppt1's breakout tournament, placing an incredible 3rd despite being an unknown player. He defeated Extra at a local on Wednesday and is looking to place well within the top 8.
Nuovo | Ghost: Following a character crisis post-patch, Ghost has returned to playing mainly Bayonetta. While he is the favorite the win the tournament, the competition he will face could easily upset him at any point.

Project M: The Former King City
The title of being the Project M city was Perth’s once upon a time but has since moved to Sydney. Despite this, Perth's local players have retained their skills and should not be slept on especially since SIN | Spud picked up the game.
The following players are considered the main contenders:
Luxingo: Was considered the favorite to win OHN but could only manage to place 7th. Considered to be one of Australia's deadliest Zelda specialists, he can definitely strike it big at DIAD 2 if he plays on point.
SIN | Spud: Since he began entering local Project M tournaments, Spud hasn’t dropped a set. He's the favorite by far, so as long as he keeps his cool.
Karu: After taking the first DIAD over Corpsecreate, Karu is sure to be looking for the back to back. With new threats like Spud however, that task won't be so easy.
Sora: The Donkey Kong specialist who won OHN. Previously had a history of bustering out of major tournaments but has shown consistency in the weeks leading up to DIAD 2.
Project M will be streamed on Hitbox at SmashWest.
Everything Else
The tournament kicks off tonight with a Salty Suite streamed on Perth Smash, with crew battles and other exhibitions on Friday night.
Other events this weekend include doubles for every game and a Super Smash Bros. 64 tournament! All in all, DI Another Day 2 is not a tournament you want to miss.
