Desperately help me with my Coursework!

I am doing a piece on whether or not mental illness exists, due in tomorrow. I have yet to start, and I need some primary data!! I have about 14 hours until it needs to be handed in, I can deal with 4 hours sleep so its looking like I have 10 hours to collect the data, and then begin. I cannot begin until I have my data. What I ask of you, is that you (please) fill out these questions, 1 or 2 may be a little personal so you may leave them out or just PM me your awnsers. If you read this please take part, this is really, really important lol.

What do you understand by the phrase ‘Mental Illness?’
What do you understand by the phrase ‘Mental Disease?’

Have you ever experienced any type of Mental Illness?
If so, what kind of mental illness?
When experiencing said illness, did you find that positive thoughts helped ease the dis(-)ease?
Was it necessary to take any medication, or did the illness sort itself out over time?

Do you believe that mental illness exists as a physical problem, or as a mental problem in the mind?

Finally, would you believe me if I said that there was no actual, solid, dependable evidence for schizophrenia to exist, and that all of our findings are based on good faith and examination? (i.e no related/abnormal brain waves)

Thanks a lot!

I would tell you to never leave your work as late again, but I can't talk, had an assignment due today, started it 6 hours before deadline. What course is this for?

What do you understand by the phrase ‘Mental Illness?’
Biological processes that affect the cognitive ability of an individual to behave typically and that can have physical implications upon both the sufferer and the surrounding people.

What do you understand by the phrase ‘Mental Disease?’
Pretty much the same I think. Disease however seems to suggest a greater sense of severity. Furthermore disease has more negative connotations

No to all

Do you believe that mental illness exists as a physical problem, or as a mental problem in the mind?
I believe it is a cognitive loss of function (a mental problem in the mind) caused by physical (biological) problems that can have further physical implications upon the rest of the body.

Finally, would you believe me if I said that there was no actual, solid, dependable evidence for schizophrenia to exist, and that all of our findings are based on good faith and examination? (i.e no related/abnormal brain waves)
Didn't pay attention to my Biopsychology lectures! I'm not sure to be honest, don't know enough about the condition to say I would agree or disagree.

Thanks a lot!
No worries, good luck.

jolly old england. hohoho.
I'm pretty tired but hopefully these answers make sense and help. One of my best friends lives for doing these marathon all-nighter essays.

Personally, I think it means disease of the mind - like emotional/cognitive/behavioural etc. problems; and one that usually requires seeing a trained professional for. But I guess it has other connotations too.

What do you understand by the phrase ‘Mental Disease?’
Disease of the mind. Maybe more politically correct than mental illness? I prefer the term mental illness though.

Nope.

Depends what disease we are talking about. It can be due to abnormal thoughts and behaviour like, say, anorexia. Or there can be a physical problem too (contributing or the stem cause) in diseases like depression.

Not really. The brain is pretty complicated. Either way it doesn't change my view of schizophrenia or how it should be managed and treated in any way.
