We here at IMGMR have a few Smashers ourselves. In celebration of the game's big release on Wii U, IMGMR will be collaborating with a local YouTuber, Slyke the Hedgehog, to bring you a weekly tournament of Smash Bros. I will be listing tournament timing, ruleset and more right here.

IMGMR's Smash Weeklies are a weekly tournament in which we devised to entertain and engage with all of you watching. The ruleset used in the tournaments will be flexible. Every month, the ruleset placed will be changed and the ranking system will be reset. Indeed, there is a monthly ranking system that we will take into account. Players who perform well in the weekly event could be contacted at the end of the month for a special occasion. This will allow anyone who has entered later to start fresh with all veterans of the event. If you missed out on one weekly, you can still put your name up there if you perform well in the next one.

How to register and participate:

To be specific, this is an online tournament and will be streamed via Twitch while hosted on Challonge. I will also be participating and will be streaming the top matches at the same time. Any live announcements will be happening on Twitch as well so make sure to keep it live while participating. Depending on the number of subscriptions, I may or may not be able to stream every match of the tournament. Here is how you can register:

  1. Make a Challonge account on Challonge.com
  2. Make your way to Challonge.com/IMGMR2 to register for the tournament. Upon registering, make sure you use your name/alias followed by your Nintendo Network ID in parenthesis. i.e.: Simbaar Ragehowl (Seltik)
  3. An hour before the tournament begins, you must go back to check-in for the tournament to ensure your registration goes through. (The check-in button appears at check-in time)
  4. Tune in to Twitch.tv/simbaarragehowl for live announcements for the tournament as well as enjoying some good matches during check-in time.
Tournament Timing and Check-in Time:

The tournament will be taking on Saturdays at 2pm Eastern Time. Check-in time will begin an hour before, meaning at 1pm.

Ruleset & Legal Stages:

It will be a single elimination tournament with all arounds being a Best of 3 except for the Final round being a Best of 5. As aforementioned, the ruleset used every month will be changed. For this first month, we will go with the simple For Glory ruleset.

  • 1-on-1, 3 stocks, 8-minute matches
  • Custom moves, Equipment and Miis are not allowed
  • Players will add each other's NNID in order to play against each other.
  • Between each round, a 15-minute intermission will allow players to add their next opponents.
Here is a list of Neutral and Counterpick Stages:

Neutral Stages:

  1. Battlefield
  2. Skyworld (Brawl)
  3. Smashville (Brawl)
  4. Town and City
  5. Pilot Wings
Counterpicks (Cannot be picked on the first match of the round):

  1. Kalos Pokémon League
  2. Halberd (Brawl)
  3. Omega Walled
  4. Omega Floating (Final Destination is part of them)
  5. Coliseum
  6. Port Aero Drive (Brawl)
  7. Skyloft
For the first match of the set, players will undergo banning process among the Neutral stages in order to choose one. The host player will ban the first stage out of the five listed above. The invited player will then ban 2 and the host player bans one more. The remaining stage will be the one selected for the first match.

For the following matches, the winner of the first match will then ban 3 stages from the Neutral and Couterpick stages. The loser of the match will then pick the next stage from either Neutral or Counterpick stages. The loser cannot pick a stage that he or she won on during the set.

Upon the end of the Best of 3, the results will reported onto the brackets by the players.

This ruleset will be applicable from this Saturday, November 29th 2014 to Saturday, December 20th 2014. The next ruleset to be applied will then be announced at that time. After every tournament, tune in to Slyke the Hedgehog's YouTube channel where he will post highlights of the tournament every week. Perform great combos or execute epic kills on your opponents while on-stream to ensure your spot on IMGMR's Smash Weeklies Highlight Reel.

Not to be rude, but what in the world is with the stagelist? It's one of the most unusual I've seen anywhere, and is missing a lot of seriously good stages and has lots of bad ones legal.

Currently the Hypest Team (we're the official tournament hosts for /r/smashbros) run this setup:

Starter:
  • Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Town and City
  • Smashville
Counterpick:
  • Castle Siege
  • Delfino Plaza
  • Duck Hunt
  • Halberd
  • Kongo Jungle 64
  • Mario Circuit (Wii U)
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Skyloft
  • Wuhu Island
