Next Event: December 30

We at D.C. eSports have been running weekly events alongside the typical FGC crowd at the CFAS Wednesday Night Strikes weekly gatherings at Hard Times Cafe in Manassas, VA. It's started of small, but we've been able to grow it to a decent sized weekly with some of the best talent in northern VA showing up regularly. Come on out and get better with us!

The tournament is for Smash 4 on Wii U, however we do always have a Melee and Project M set up there for friendlies!

We had 29 people come out tonight! We continue to get bigger each week, which is awesome. We'll be taking a 2 week break for EVO, but will be back July 29. The results thread has been updated with tonight's event results.

Reminder that we're back from EVO, well rested, and ready to get back into it! The next weekly will be this upcoming Wednesday, July 29. Come get some practice in before Super Smash Con!

Yep! The venue is a bar and restaurant, any age can come and play, but if we catch any minors drinking alcohol, we will have them escorted out and banned from future events.
Okay thank you.And this is 1 on 1 tournament right? Also what all the rules are customs allowed?

Correct. When you enter the bar, come up the stairs immediately on the left to get to the gaming area. Sign-ups are usually in the back left corner, where you'll pay $5 for venue, and then $5 for the tournament entry (so $10 total). Tournament sign-ups close at 8:30, and tournament will start shortly after that (usually 8:45).

We usually get there with 2 setups by around 6:45-7PM. Friendlies are available before tournament starts, so get there whenever you'd like, as long as you're there at the very latest 8:29PM.

Tournament usually ends between 11PM and midnight, depending on the amount of people and amount of setups we have.

Our August 5th weekly will most likely be doubles, though!
Yikes! That means I need to find a teammate! Will some kind-hearted soul take pity on me and partner up? I am the very tall girl who played Rosalina from the event on the 29th; the one who had only been playing the game for 2 days. But I promise I'm practicing really hard, so come this week I'll have over 4 times as much experience ;)! I'm also amenable to meeting up for some doubles practice/coordination type stuff beforehand if you wish.

It's official, we will be running doubles on Wednesday instead of the normal singles tournament! Come out with a partner, or meet someone new and team up there! If you're not interested in doubles, you should definitely still come out and enjoy some friendlies as we prepare for Super Smash Con this weekend!

I live only about 30 min away from the tourney location. My friend and I would like to come to the next meeting. Is this event held every Wednesday?

Yep! We do run these every Wednesday (unless something like EVO happens where my brother and I are both out of town). We hope to see you and your friends in the future!

At this time, the tournament will only be for Smash 4. Friendlies are always welcome for the other games (there's always at least one, usually 2 Melee setups), however we don't have the capacity or the people to run tournaments for Melee and PM alongside Smash 4 at this time.

If you're looking to play Melee/PM, there are a few other events that occur in the area. On Thursdays, there's a Melee weekly called Field House Fights in Chantilly, VA. On Mondays, I believe they are still doing weeklies at eStarland in Chantilly for Melee. On Sundays, Boss is starting a Smash 4 weekly at eStarland. At his first event, they will have a PM tournament also. When school starts back up, the guys over at George Mason will be having weeklies on Fridays that will have tournaments for each game.

Thanks so much! Very helpful. Hopefully I'll be able to come by still.

Is there any chance of an actual Melee bracket at this weekly anytime soon? Thinking about going, but would love to see an actual bracket for melee.

No, sir. Wednesday nights are Melee nights at Xanadu, and though we're an hour away, we're not trying to step on anyone's toes. More importantly though, we don't have the space and bandwidth to run Melee as a tournament in addition to Smash 4. There will always be at least one Melee friendlies setup, and plenty of people play it on Wednesday nights, but there won't be a tournament for it anytime in the foreseeable future.

We're definitely not done with Melee, we've got something cooking up possibly in a couple months. The last few months have been busy with EVO, Smash Con, and now this weekend Summer Jam. Next month we'll be busy working with Red Bull for the Red Bull Battlegrounds SC2 event. We're hoping for something in October, and Melee is definitely being considered for it.

Is bringing your own setup allowed (WII U + Monitor)? If so, can I play tournament matches on it?

Monitor is a 2014 BENQ XL2420G with very low input lag http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/

... Also, is this every week?

Regards, J
Bringing setups is definitely encouraged! The first 3 full setups there will get their venue fee back. The more setups we have, the faster the tournament can run and more friendlies can be played.

And yes, this is a weekly event. We'll make announcements whenever there won't be an event, but that's usually only when both my brother and I are traveling (like for EVO this year) and can't be there.

Reminder that this Wednesday will be doubles night! Last month we had 16 teams, and we're looking for a bigger turnout this time! Find a partner, or try your luck and match with someone there before the tournament!

We are back to Singles this week, hope to see everyone there again tomorrow. Remember, 40+ entrants ensures a $50 pot bonus!

Fun announcement for our doubles event in October. We'll be running a Rivals of Aether tournament alongside of doubles on October 7! Grab a teammate and compete in Smash 4, and give Rivals of Aether a chance on the side! Really fun game.

My brother and I won't be around this week (headed back to the 757 for the holidays), however Zephyr will take the reigns and run the tournament this week!

I hope it is alright to post here, but I wanted to make sure these were still going on every Wednesday. I attended awhile back and loved the experience. Just had some life changes get in the way. Would love to get things going again and start attending regularly. Was planning on going next week.
