If we opened the PG up to the public, it'd be just like the old Debate Hall, which was littered with pointless posts (see some of the older threads in the Debate Hall Archives to see what I mean). The way things are now, the people in the PG are those who actually want to be here and have a legitimate interest in higher quality discussion.
I see your point HOWEVER if you want activity that would be the best (practical) option because it causes some curious/board people to come along that other wise would not put the effort into joining because he or she would not be curious enough. The only other way I see increased activity that keeps the PG and the DH intact would be to spread awareness about the debate hall to other halls and to make it flashy and showy and something tells me that few people here wish to do that (at least I don't) and it would be impractical.

It doesn't matter how much activity there is if the activity's just spammers.
That is presumming EVERY new person is a spammer. Of course there will be spamers but out of that a few more people will probibly and could become DH members or at least have the skill to become one.

There is probably a one in a hundred chance that a new person here will be DH material.

As a suggestion, can there be a PG re-post of tue "existence of god"?

It's not that simple. I don't believe the system allows to distinguish who can enter freely or not according to join date. I believe at most in can only distinguish by status. Also his statement is not assuming every new person is a spammer. It's saying that with public access both people who are interested AND spammers can enter. It'd be a hassle for mods to be constantly having to infract and room ban people for posting idiotically.

With the way it is set up right now, if someone is truly interested in becoming a member of the DH then they will apply for it and then demonstrate and make themselves ready here. It cuts down on spammers because it comes out to be too much trouble and a waste of time for the spammer to try and gain access to a room where they will be kicked out just as fast. While those who are actually interested have their chance to get in.

You can always recreate the thread in the PG yourself if you waint to discuss it. If there are certain parts you want to pick out from the "Existence of God" thread in the DH then you can have SWF open in two tabs. One with the opening post you're making, and the other to pick out what you want from the DH "Existence of God".

Hell no. Trollers, spammers, and the like would still leave their mark.
What's stopping them from doing it now? Most people wouldn't use it anyway.

To be honest I don't even think a lot of members know about the PG. Hell, they might not even really know about the DH. When I was knew here I had no idea what it was.

In conclusion there is no need to reform the debate hall.
We already reformed it... This thread is months old.
