Look at about 1:35. Don't think most people were paying attention to this (I myself just now caught it after watching it a few times over) but when Mac uses his up special, I'm pretty certain that he would have grabbed the ledge if it were Brawl considering characters snap to the ledge even from a distance. I might be mistaken but you guys should tell me what you think.

I'm pretty sure we've known that Brawl's ledge grabs wouldn't be returning for a while now. IIRC in the developer diret Mario uses his cape right next to a ledge and doesn't grab it where as in Brawl he would have.
EDIT: The good thing is, this is newer gameplay so it seems to reaffirm that Brawl's ledges won't return.

Yeah I do recall that, but like you said this kind of reaffirms it. I'd say it's pretty much confirmed after that for me.
Um... Yay?
Um... ok?

Not just the ledge grab, but the mechanics of ledges have been completely revised in general (although, that has been known for quite some time now). So that's definitely a plus for this game. Hopefully Sakurai will continue to correct mistakes like this.

Auto snap was most likely a test of a new idea as well as a way to create a more fair experience for a new audience. Since Sakurai has stated he is aiming for a more competition heavy game and is trying to remove exploits like planking, I welcome this change back.

I would say at this situation he should have grab it no matter what kind of ledge grab feature we get. I'd say it was just a bug of an unfinished game. :3
Though, if that was the case, I wonder why they left it like that.

To Little Mac.
I don't think that Little Mac would have auto grab this in a Brawl situation. Considering his size and the distance from the ledge, no, not really.
The scene was scripted anyways. You can tell he could get closer to the ledge in this scenario. :|

It is nice to see it this close to the games release. We may not have a date yet, but we know it's this year so that's pretty close as far as making changes like those go, so I'm hopeful.

And to anyone who says he wouldn't have snapped at the ledge in Brawl, I'll post what I did in some other thread.

We can't tell for sure what it will be like just at looking trailer.
As I said, the trailer are scripted.

And look at the match from E3 at about 1:40. Looks to me like your example video. It's an early build tho, but we can get an idea.

Huge difference between the Brawl example and the E3 video. wanna know what it is? Watch the video carefully. Pause it, play it in slower speed, do whatever you have to do to see that Mega Man just has an incredibly high recovery. He doesn't "snap" to the ledge like Jigglypuff and C.Falcon do in the Brawl video.

EDIT: However you're right that the Mac clip is obviously scripted, so who knows if all it would've taken is the player moving just slightly left to latch onto the edge, but still, Brawl's ledges were terrible in that they brought you UP to the point that you basically jumped again. That at the very least is not displayed by either the Mac trailer or the E3 footage.

To me it looks like he snapped on to the ledge and didn't move himself to the ledge.
Indicator for me is, that he was flying a bit faster than usual the last bit.

But what ever. We have to wait and see.

That is way too far out to actually know if Brawl's ledge mechanics are gone

Again I don't know how closely you're watching but it's pretty clear that he up B's at the exact same speed until he's on the same level as the stage and then just as he's about to do a flip (which I guess indicates the end of his ascension) he moves the left a tiny bit and then snaps to the ledge, having already been on the same level as it.

Yeah we have to wait and see what exactly it feels like, but honestly to say that that clip looks the same as the example from Brawl is just to say that one isn't watching the clip very carefully.

I meant the "snap" thing. It's a different distance, but looks to me the same. Just because this video shows weird situations, doesn't mean that this isn't the same.

I made my statement. I'm out of this specific discussion. :)

Well yes there's always a "snap" when grabbing on to the ledge, what's up for discussion here is the distance at which that occurs...
But alright, if you'd really rather just leave a conversation altogether just because your observation made no sense... I mean that's cool too?

Best case scenario is that they remove the huge snap distance and reduce the effectiveness of edge guarding.

Sakurai's post about the tweaked edge mechanics already gives me hope that edge-guarding will be more interesting this time around, so assuming that the edges remain as un-magnetic as we've seen them so far, I'd say we are looking at that best case scenario.

There have been a few instances where you can see that this is the case unless changed later on for some reason.

Sorry, but I don't see any situations in that video that point to brawl snapping coming back.
I liked ledge snapping

Am I a noob? :(
