Don't know where to post this. Mods, do as you see fit.

If you ever played any Metal Gear Solid game, you know who he is. This has been bothering me for a while, since in Melee, there wasn't any dubbing done to any voices (Marth and Roy being prime examples).

So the questions: Do you think Nintendo will hire him to do Snake's voice? Will they leave him with the Japanese voice? Do you think they should even dub? And if they do, do you think they will dub others (Example: Ike)?

Discuss away.

Funny.. I was thinking the just same thing earlier today.
Personally i dont think Davids gonna be in the game, and i was also thinking about that roy or marth didint have english actors, but they never did (Am i right).
Anyway snakes not going to say much just some battle noises so David aint needed, or perhaps few sentences at the end of a match. But my opinion is no, even thought Hayter is one of the greates english voice actors i know. After Cam Clark of course.

I doubt it. the only time they dub over japanese voices in smash, is to save from confusion, like with the pokemon voices. like, fox has an english voice, but they didn't use it, because there's no need to. same with mewtwo, since he never says his name. so yeah, we're most likely stuck with snake and ike's japanese voice.

Oh and by the way theres nothing wrong with Solids japanese voice actor he is GREAT! But i think everyone here is far more familiar with David Hayter. But everyone will get used to Akio Ōtsuka (the japanese guy if someone didint know) when we play brawl so freakin much.

I think that they should get David Hayter back, and I know that he would do it. He always says that he will do the voice of Solid Snake any time he is needed because he loves the role so much, and there will always be need for his voice. There are any multitude of things he could say as victory quotes or taunts.

There definently going to use David Hayter for Snake's English voice. No doubt it. I don't think it will be like Marth's taunt.

If they use Charle Martinet for Mario's voice then Snake's voice will be David.

If David Hayter doesnt voice Snake, then there will be hell to pay....

He IS Snake... This game doesnt seem to have had the time constraints that Melee did, so Im sure they will be able to dub voices that are significant to the character. Snake is very popular worldwide, so keeping him Japanese would just be lazy...

Actually, Marth has an English VA. It's Spike Spencer. He played him in the Fire Emblem anime dub.

I think all characters that have ever spoken will be given Japanese and English VAs with the exception of the Mario characters. Samus might speak but who knows. You can't predict with her.

Well, if Snake ever actually speaks during the game, they will probably have to give him an English voice unless they are going to cut it out of non-Japanese versions. Apparently, wikipedia and IMDB have him credited to voice Snake in brawl, but they aren't entirely reliable.

Not sure what they'd do for Ike, they got him a voice actor for the few lines he spoke in FE (though wasn't really a stellar performance), and I guess the only reason they kept Marth and Roy speaking Japanese was because they are Japanese only, which doesn't apply to Ike. He'll probably keep the Japanese grunts at such, but he could have some english speaking lines.

The only other characters I think might speak are Samus (for ZS Samus mainly), and probably Meta Knight (I know he talks in the anime, but not sure about games). Pit looks like he'll be another silent protagonist, so he'll probably keep his Japanese voice.

they'll probably just end up sampling snake's grunts and groans straight from the metal gear solid games. the same goes for all the characters (or most anyway). they don't need to re-record those noises just for brawl.

I was wondering what they're going to do with the cutscene voices. Will they keep true to some of the franchises regarding voices and the ability to speak? Characters like Snake and Fox have voices, so no problem there. Meta Knight and Zelda have dialog, but no voices (outside of the cartoons, of course). Samus doesn't talk in most games, but I think she has some lines in Fusion, not sure though. Mario has only said short phrases, and I'm sure we all know about Link...

On a vaguely related note, since we're talking about voice acting, I hope the Pokemon use their in-game "cries" instead of the stupid anime "name-talking" crap...

I think it's always been like that with Pokemon. The only reason we have the cries in the games like that is because they don't bother translating the cries.

There is no need to worry. Most fans know Snake just by hearing his voice, it's very distinctive. There is no way anyone else would play Snake's part. If they did, it just wouldn't be Snake. I'm not worried.

I support David Hayter for Snake's voice in Brawl. He's a good voice actor and from what I've read, Hideo Kojima even likes the English voice acting of the Metal Gear games more than the Japanese voice acting. His voice just fits to me.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes....yes

Snake MUST have David Hayter for his voice. it wouldn't be Snake (well, the American version anyway) without David Hayter

and to whoever thought it wouldn't be necessary because all he'll do is grunt, he might have a lot of voice in the Subspace Emissary. I mean in the pics from TGS, they had codec scenes so don't be surprised if there is voice acting

Wow. I just finished watching MSG2 through Youtube...

Gotta admit, that story really messes with your head.

And yes, it seems only logical that David does Snake's voice. Wouldn't feel right without him.

Hmm, I just read that in the Japanese versions of Metal Gear Solid: Integral and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Snake's voice was left English with Japanese subtitles because Kojima apparently likes Snake's English voice acting a lot...

Id say we need not worry about Snake being dubbed now... :)

I don't know.

Even Hayter's great, I'm not sure he could interact with silent characters. Link is a mute, and always will be a mute. I can't imagine him busting out gangsta rap any time soon.

Edit: 1000 posts. THIS IS MADNESS!

Interesting subject. I dug a little deeper into this:

In the first Subspace Emissary video, Mario has a voice.
You can clearly hear the "Oh"s. On the second video, the
one with Petey Piranha, Mario also has some never before
heard voices, like the flying away voice.

This is interesting, since the man behind Mario, Charles Mart-
inet, diddn't do any voices for Melee and SSB. They used his
Mario 64 voice clips. Now it seems Mario will get new voices!

Also, please note that Peach did have her own lines in English
in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

So how does this work on Snake? Well, we've heard his Japanese
voice in the first Trailer, but I seriously think we'll get the english
ones. I doubt they'll say: "Ah, just drop that and use the foreign one".

And also, I doubt David Hayter to say no to this project.

If David Hayter isn't the voice I'll be real pissed. Wut if David said no and they got Gilbert Gotfried? Just kidding. Seriously though, David Hayter's voice is what fans have come to associate with Snake. They just go together too well and it would be real dumb to change that.

You seem to be forgetting that Marth and Roy werent intended to be in the US version of melee. Falco, however, was given and english AND japanese taunt.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that they will have an english voice actor for the english version of brawl.
