Dashing? Dash-dancing impossible? (wiimote)

Hi with the new update there was much emphasis on how to dash it said...

"Press sideways twice to Dash!"

I'm not sure if its confirmed that you CAN'T smash the stick to dash like in melee, but it did say hit the control stick TWICE.

Now in the gameplay vids it says again that u have to hit it twice, look at the vid with Nate teaching mtv noob.

Now correct me if i'm wrong but its only been evident in videos using the Wiimote, the classic controller which uses an ANALOG stick seems to be smash type dash as you have seen in the MTV video again with the mtv noob. The MTV noob here he dashes with diddy along the fire emblem stage and so does nate, soi'm guessing classic controller u just need to smash the control stick.

ure thoughts?

In my honest oppinion, I think the Wiimote was just added in for the "We have 4 contoller options" goal. It is in fact the worst option you could choose, and a game controller with a "hard to reach" area, is just a flatout bad controller choice. I could see people thinking "Oh, takes me back to the NES days!", it is Smash Bros., it is ment to play with a controller such as the Virtual Console controller, the N64 controller or the (Personal favourite) GameCube controller.

This is no thread bash or anything, so please just understand my oppinion.

On a side note, yes, the Wiimote being as unbalanced as it is doesn't have enough to offer to discover the secrets like wavedashing and dashdancing. Get Cube.

Its so hard to get a gamecube controller nowadays thou, at least a first party one.
I wonder if this game gets enough sales, game stores will re sell the gc controllers.

Nah its just the Wii remote that you have to tap it twice (like in a lot of fighting games). But for everything else its the same. Also if they had decided to make you do that with the control stick also I'm positive someone would have mentioned it in one of the previews for the game. The reason you have to do it with the Wii remote is because you can't press it lightly to walk

If Dashdancing is in, it'll be possible to do on the wiimote. you just double tap to start running, if you press left, he'll run left. to stop running you need to press down or let go of the d-pad.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it does. But to do one, you have to press 2 while already holding that direction, unlike with analog, where it's based on the severity of the stick's movement. To Smash with the D-pad, you'd have to press them both at the same time. But that's merely how I interpreted it.

you can tilt. smashbros.com says how to do it with the wiimote. that was one of the first dojo updates.
which is sweet is you will be able to run full speed and press 1+2 fSmash without needing to downCancel. And with key mapping, i'd set Y to be smash attack on the gamecube controller (since i use X to jump)

The wiimote is obviously going to be an inferior control scheme. I suspect there will be a lot of high-level tactics that are virtually impossible with it. I think it'll be functional enough that it won't significantly impede the average player though, which is reason enough to include it. This just means it'll be easier for everybody to get 4 controllers together for multiplayer.

Agree.

The Wiimote is obviously for people who are new to the Smash scene....I mean c'mon how many of us plan on using the Wiimote on serious matches..none of us...this has to be Sakurai's way of grabbing a diverse group of people. The Pro's, Advanced, and good players will stick with their Gcube controllers and maybe try the Classic controller. The Wiimote+Nunchuck might be good...I'm not saying the Wiimote is bad and no one can master it but IMO it's the worst of the four options.

i dunno about you guys, but it seems to me that the remote is simply a built in handicap mode, if you wanna take on someone much less skilled than you are, just wii-mote them for extreme humiliation

Yeah the wii-mote seems to clunky to use. Sure it probably will be easy enough to play with but it seems inferior.

The wiimote is the dumbest one of all, why anyone would use it is beyond me. At least use the nuchuka >.<

Yea that would be much more reasonable. It would be funky but I could see myself doing just as well with it as with the gcube controller if they let me map the d-pad with c-stick functionality.

My prefered nunchuck control scheme.

Analog Stick - Movement/Crouching/jumping
Z - Shield/Dodge
A - Smash Attacks
B - Special attacks
(+) - Jump
(-) - Pause
1: Taunt
D-pad: Quick Smash attacks aka C-Stick
C: Grab or an alternate would be A+Z

That control scheme would be perfect for me and I hope it's possible, although I'll probably still just use the Gamecube controller since I'm used to it already, but the Nunchuck+Wii-mote combo could definitley work competitively.

To get back on the topic of this thread (we kind of went into the whole controller debate) I think dash-dancing usefully would be practically impossible using just the wiimote. I believe you have to switch directions about twice as second, at the slowest, to dash-dance with most characters. That wouldn't be too hard to do (4 button-presses per second), but that's not really fast enough to be useful.

The whole point of dash-dancing is to allow you to run away or attack at any time. It's not that useful to begin with, but when you do it too slow, your opponent can predict it easily. So it would probably lose it's usefulness when you're using the wiimote.

I've also noted something for the structure of the wiimote, it says 1 and 2 can be used for a smash attack along with 1,2 and the dpad. What exactly does 1 and 2 together preform? What direction of smash attack I mean.

Maybe it allows you to press and hold the direction of the smash attack, so instead of pressing direction + 1 at the same time you could just use 1 + 2 and the smash would come out in the direction you're holding.

Agreed. The Wiimote seems like such a waste of time.
