Set format (In Order of Procedure):
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the set
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

General Rules

* Absolutely NO CUSSING in the store, or the store owner can throw you out.
* 3 Stock for Brawl. 4 Stock for Melee. 4 Stock for Brawl Minus.
* 8 minute timer.
* Items are set to "Off" and "None"
* Matches are best of 3. Winners/Losers/Grand Finals are best of 5.
* Controller port disputes will be resolved by Rock-Paper-Scissors or higher number with G&W's SideB.
* Brawl: First round stage will be determined by stage strike system.
* No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
* In teams matches one team will get ports 1 and 4, while the other team gets ports 2 and 3.
* Make sure you fix your controller and your tag before you start playing. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
* Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action.
* [Time Limit] If the timer runs out, the winner of the game will be determined by the number of stocks (the highest number will win). If stocks are tied, it then goes to lowest % is the winner. If both stock and % are even the match goes to a tiebreaker round, stock will be set to 1, the timer will be set to 4 minutes, and the same stage and characters must be used.

MLG Rules

* No use of Marth’s and Squirtle’s grab release infinites against Ness.
* No use of King Dedede’s standing grab infinites against Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Samus, and Mario.
* No use of Metaknight’s infinite cape glitch.
* No pausing a game without the other player's permission.
* No use of an action that freezes a game, or otherwise disrupts standard gameplay.
* Any infinite move must end before the affected character reaches 300%.
* Players may request a blind pick of characters for the game 1 of a match.
* Players may not intentionally manipulate a button, trigger, bumper, D-Pad, and/or joystick on a teammate’s controller while a game is in progress. Breaking this rule will result in a forfeit of the game.
* [Stage Striking] For game 1 of each match, the higher seeded player/team must strike three stages from the list of starter stages. The lower seeded player/team must then strike 4 stages from the list of starter stages. The higher seeded player/team must then choose the game 1 stage from the remaining starter stages.
* [Ledge Grab Limit] If the timer runs out and a player exceeds the ledge grab limit for that game’s stage, that player/team will forfeit the game. However, if the timer runs out and both players in a 1v1 match, or at least one player on each 2v2 team, exceed the ledge grab limit for that game’s stage, the penalty will not be enforced (instead, use the [Time Limit] rule above). The ledge grab limit will be 35. The ledge grab limits only apply to games/tiebreaker rounds in which the timer runs out.
* [Continuation Sets] If players are scheduled to play each other for a 2nd time, their match will expand to a Best of 7, include the previous match, and pick up where that match left off. For example, if Player A beat Player B 2 games to 0 in the winners bracket, the Best of 7 will resume with game 3 and Player A leading 2 games to 0. When the match is resumed, the loser of the winners bracket match must select the stage for the upcoming game. When the match is resumed, the winner of the winners bracket match must select their character for the upcoming game first. The loser of the winners bracket match must then select their character for the upcoming game.

Team Rules
* Port control will be decided by rock paper scissors best 1/1
* Port winners can choose either 1st and 4th or 2nd and 3rd (1221)
* singles bans and rules apply after port control is settled

Starting at 5pm is quite late. Normally tourneys take 6 hours at minimum. Of course this totally depends on how many people show up. I'd recommend starting at 1pm if you can manage.

EDIT: Also I'm moving this to the Southwest region.

Hmm probably 4 hrs if you're on top of things. Doing 3/5 for WF, LF, and GF takes the most time. The tourney can get bottlenecked.

hey dakota!!! <3

a few questions on the tourny.

* [Time Limit] If the timer runs out, the winner of the game will be determined by the number of stocks (the highest number will win). If stocks are tied, sudden death won’t be used and a tiebreaker round will be played instead. In a tiebreaker round, stock will be set to 1, the timer will be set to 4 minutes, and the same stage and characters must be used.

your rules just talk about stocks ? So damage has no effect on the outcome ?

This seems odd since in most tournaments its decided by stock and percentage in that order, rather than stocks alone.

Not gonna lie. I do not like your stage list. The starter list is basic. (just AIB's starters)
But in my opinion the Counterpicks list is way to huge. It should be changed and/or let the winning player strike 2 stages he/she does not want to go to.

Also.. i texted you and asked what the stages list was like and you said the same as mlg except for ps2... O_o' not even close.. and ps2 is clearly listed.

Those are my only few complaints :p

Cant wait for this tournament!!! Goodluck to everyone!

oh thanks for catching that. for sure it does go to percent if times runs out (like any of you guys would time each other anyways XD)
and the stage list is amazing, starters are suppose to give a closer range for the two players to have and equal match. I dont like how mlg makes players fight on something as broken as castle siege with walk offs or halberd where snake and oli kill at 85%. 2 bans is to much

^_^ Just a wolf (perspective) players opinion!!! I agree with you to a point but then its seem those stages are even more dangerous as counterpicks with you only being able to ban one. You are likely going to still go to a stage that can be bad for you. (but also i look at the list and at least half of those are stages that are bad for me :p)

Either way no matter! This tournament is going to be amazing!

Amarillo for the win!!!!! Not only am i competing for amarillo. i am also Dakpo's #1 fan!! haha :D
Put us on the map m8!!

Here's MLG's time limit rule:

[Time Limit] If the timer runs out, the winner of the game will be determined by the following criteria in this order: Stock and Percentage. If Stock is used to determine a winner, the highest number will win. If Percentage is used to determine a winner, the lowest number will win. If both Stock and Percentage are tied, Sudden Death won’t be used and a Tiebreaker Round will be played instead. In a Tiebreaker Round, stock will be set to 1, the timer will be set to 4 Minutes, and the same stage and characters must be used.
As for stages:

Final Destination is a bad stage to start on against Diddy, DDD, Falco, or ICs.
Yoshi's is a great stage to start on against Diddy, Snake, Zelda. Bad against Lucario.
PS1/Lylat/Delfino are all great stages against Falco / other characters with weird recovery.
Delfino is also really bad against MK.
Castle Siege is good for Ike.
Battlefield is great for G&W.
Etc...

The thing with having a bunch of starters is to allow for more options for all character match-ups. Limiting it to 3 or only 5 starters means characters like ICs and Diddy have excellent starters which is slightly "unfair" for the rest of the cast.

Having 7/9 starters when striking, against diddy for example, gives you more options for choosing what stage to play on as opposed to always BF or SV. With 9 starters it means you get to strike 4, so there's no way you're going to get screwed over against a certain character because of a bad stage. You can strike out ANY stage they get a great advantage on against your character.

Oh, and players only get 1 ban. It's NEVER a good idea to give them 2 bans (not strikes) each. They've experimented with this and it just causes too many problems.
