Dair->usmash

I was practicing Dair->utilt in training mode (to see if it combo'd) and I accidently did an usmash instead, and it registered as a combo O.O

I've never seen this used before (most likely b/c you might aswell do drillshine->usmash.) BUT against certain chars that are hard and/or impossible to waveshine combo (jigglypuff, luigi) this can be a really effective combo to finish your opponent off. Against Luigi especially, since you can't uthrow->uair him for the kill.

It's hard to time it though (does anyone know how long the opponent is stunned from the dair or something? so you can figure out if you could do this consistently?)

ummm.... thoughts?

It doesn't normally work. Most people would put up some sort of defence mechanism after the drill.. and pointless trying past 1 try.

The only works in 2 ways, First ledge canceled drill to turn around up-smash, it's only lag time is turning around with Fox and thats none. And the other if they smash DI the drills away and not expect the tippy toe fox u-smash, smash di'ing up on drill should leave you some what vulnerable.

^^Lol did you just completely ignore that I said that it registered as a combo in training mode? That means it's REAL LEGIT COMBO. I did it myself just now, im 100% sure. It's a FACT that it is possible to make dair->usmash combo, there's nothing to argue about.
Can't you atleast read what you're responding to before you respond yayuhzz?

Spacefalcon-yhea with edgecanceling it's pretty certain that you can do it consistently. I didn't really get that DI part you where saying tho >.>

It is possible to do it without any of those special circumstances tho, like I said (unless the cpu dummy's di in a weird way or something)

The question is if it's possible to do it consistently, maybe you need that last hit to hit 1 frame before you land or something like that for the stun to last long enough. Or maybe it's just really hard to time it (or both...).
Magus, where are you...

it works, but they can easily just smash DI behind you, or smash DI and put up their shield. also doesn't work on fast-fallers. It's better to drill-grab, because if you miss the up-smash, you will get punished

^ i just tested this for about 3 seconds against a cpu gaw in training mode and confirm this.

drill u-smash works EXACTLY like drillrest, you have to dair them and aim for their horizontal center and make them do the "flipstun" animation or they lean back and it looks like they're in pain or something and THEN you u-smash.

i think they also have to be at a certain % in some cases to produce that "flipstun" animation.

you also have to do it very fast.

Im too lazy to try, what about Drill->Jab->Usmash?
It does, you can also do drill->jab->grab or dtilt. (jab->dtilt/grab isn't always gauranteed though, but it often works anyways)
I do it a bit against luigi's. And sometimes on chars who fall from the shine aswell, if I think he is gonna DI the shine up and tech if they expect a shine

The problem is that they can CC the jab. But if you mix it up between doing shine combos (shine->illusion on luigi and thunders on pal marth) and jabs you can make them DI wrong.
but lovage already said all of this basically lol
I prefer having something "gauranteed" though, since I sometimes dont have a clue what my opponent expects. which is why I'm so curious about dair->upsmash

That's pretty amazing. Thanks for testing. :)
Im prolly gonna investigate more in this when I don't feel lazy, posting percentages and stuff, so if/when I do I'll update :)

i got it three times on gaw and once on puff before i stopped testing.

there's some timing trick to get it.

it's easiest on really light characters i think, they seem to get into the awkward stun animation earlier than other chars. i think you can get this on fox at around 20, probably earlier, i think on gaw maybe even earlier than like 12. not sure about marth, bowser, and bigger dudes.

in all honesty though this looks highly impractical. the fact that on many characters it seems you can't ff the drill makes this super diable, sdiable, etc. if you can somehow pull it off on a jigglypuff you win the internet but i think normal people will find just drill u-tilt or drillgrab better like always.

KirbyKaze: Yeah, when I read the title, Jiggs' drill-rest tech is the first thing I thought of. I play Ganon, and my friend plays Fox, and a lot of the time when he drills and connects, it usually makes my Ganon reel back (like Fox smells bad or something) or it makes him look like he's tripping in place (that flip akin to Jiggs' fast-falled drill). I think it's just the last hit being close to the feet.

Speaking of the last hit, does it have time to come out in a short hop? I don't really play Fox a lot (and when I do, it's for the lulz). I dunno. Test it. Find a way. Then own people with it.
