how do u like setting up for it? whenever i try to connect with it the opponent just auto grabs the ledge

My opponents usually don't give me the chance to spike, probably because its sorta hard to not be obvious about it. When they see me approaching the edge they smell trouble and avoid it.

Plus you have to wait till ledge grab invincibility frames are over.

Basically I don't know either. Someone enlighten us.

i.ve seen it on marth after shielding his up b then doing it but thats it

People usually use D-tilt if the opponent is just sitting there and waiting for you to basically hit them... It works better on larger characters when they are trying to auto-snap the edge. Timing is and important part of this if you are aiming to hit them right before they grab the ledge.
